Crystal didn't post this because she's feeling kinda worn out today (I think). Anyway, I thought I would make you aware of it, so that you can pray...........
Sunday morning there was a shooting in Lititz, PA (not far from where Crystal lives). I don't know all the details, but an 18 year old boy shot his girlfriend's parents (over a dispute concerning her curfew). Apparently this girl wasn't even to be dating this guy, as she is only 14. He shot the parents and took off with her on the run. She has a 13 year old sister and a younger brother (not sure of age- 10 maybe?) Anyway, the sister witnessed the shooting of the father and the son went to the neighbors to call 9-1-1.
They boy and girl were picked up in Indiana yesterday. Police have him in custody and she was being returned to PA. They are considering it a kidnapping, rather than her consenting to go along with him.
Anyway, what makes this situation so sad is that both of the families involved were homeschooling families. And Crystal knows both families.
So, please remember these families in your prayers- last names are Borden and Ludwig.
    Thanks,

I had read about that, and saw they were both homeschoolers. I wondered at the time if either of you knew the families. It sounds so tragic!

I had heard that on the news. That is terrible for both families. They have my prayers. I didn't realize anyone on the board would know them. I know Crystal is having a rough time. She has my prayers as well.

What scares me at this story is how the young girls being interviewed keep taking up for this boy, as though what he did was okay. Maybe it's just sounding that way due to how the paper presents the story.

Both parents were killed, then both teens took off. It is still uncertain if she left willingly, or was kidnapped. He was caught in Indiana with the girl, who was unharmed. My understanding is that her parents didn't have anything against this guy, other than he was 18 and she was 14. They simply didn't want them seeing each other for that reason, and she was seeing him on the sly.

Guess what? The girls' family homeschooled their children and that's how she met the boy. He was also homeschooled. I saw that on one of the Nightly News things. Of course, they had to mention they were hsed like that mattered.

I heard this but didn't know that they were homeschooled. I hate to know that Crystal knews them. That makes it so hard to be that close to the families. How very sad. What in the world did that boy think? How crazy and sad for both families! I will pray for both families. Oh I really do feel sad for the younger brother and sister and the boy's parents.

Its a tragic story, I hope the kids of the family will be taken care of and the girl won't have too much trama to get over, I know she will be rattled over it for the rest of her life. And I hope that she doesn't say she went willingly if she din't because he threatened to hurt her if she did. ---- oh what a mess!

And the media loves to prove that homeschooled kids have problems, yes, our kids aren't perfect!

I am sorry you guys have to face all the criticism you do. I don't really feel it like you all because Tanner is only 3. However, I have met so many good hearted hard working homeschool moms from church, and then you guys, and really envy all you do for your children. Keep up the good work!

I think the thing we need to keep in mind that hs'ing is NO GUARANTEE that our kids will be "perfect". Sometimes we act that way. But our children will still have to make thier own choices, and sometimes those choices might have tragic consequences. I seriously doubt this boy went there, planning on killing her parents. He's probably very remorseful right now, but being remorseful won't bring them back. And I doubt she ever thought this could come from sneaking about with him behind her parents' back.

The media has a tendency to catagorize things. They want to say that anytime a tragety happens it is because of the way we live our lives. Bad things will happen from time to time,Really there is no explanation. We don't know what the mental state of the boy was or what was he thinking. Maybe we will have some answers later, A few bad people bring judgement on the whole group.Sometimes the kids that have the best of everything turn out the worst. I have an Aunt that is a DR. She sent her kids to the best schools.Had the nicest house .Their father was a Judge. The kids slacked off in school. They stole her credit card and had a party for 50 of their freinds at her expense. No explanation.

Thanks Heidi for posting this. I was going to, but have just felt drained by life in general the last couple days. If you all could just pray for everyone involved. I know what this boy did was more horrible then words can say, but please pray for him, his parents - can you even imagine what they must be going through right now? He has siblings - please pray for them. Pray for the children that now have no parents. It is so hard to understand, its like my brain cant process it.These really were good, Christain kids, that come from great Christain homes. I dont know how this could happen. The media is coming down hard on our homeschooling community. Saying things like he wasnt socialized enough and thats why he didnt know how to direct his anger. Its so sad.

OF COURSE he wasn't properly socialized!!!

Perhaps they need to look at some hard statistics....

What percent of HS'ed kids are involved in violent crimes? What percent of PS kids? Private school kids? Give me THAT information, and then we'll discuss knowing how to direct anger.

Oh, BTW, my DH was verbally assaulted in his classroom today by someone who doesn't know how to direct anger. Thankfully, it was only verbal. You'd think after more than ten years in a PS would have taught this young man to do that! After all, I bet they've taught him the proper way to use a condom....

    We are praying, Crystal.

Statistically we still have public school beat. Society doesn't like people that are different from NORMAL but when you think about it' Normal is like the equator. It is something that is referenced to.
but actually doesn't exist.I say normal compared to what?Any one that would bring a gun and shoot innocent people is not properly socialized. That might just be an inbalance in his brain having nothing to do with the fact he was homeschooled.

God too will use all of this for His Glory. The media will use any story they can get their hands on to manipulate it for their ratings... this too shall pass...

Lorna called me on this and first thing out of my mouth was well there goes homeschooling down the tube, like we don't have a bad name already.

Even though in my eyes it has nothing to do with homeschooling. But, you all know as well as I do they wouldn't look at it that way.

We need to all stick together become stronger for our children and pray for both families it's so sad.
