is there somewhere on this site designated for sharing lesson ideas and creative teaching methods we have come up with or does that just "go into the pot" with everything else. ive got a couple "recipes" that id like to share and id love to see what you all have come up with for diffrent subjects connie
I'd put it in this section but that would make a cool new section. I bet we all have a few things like that.
Connie we'd love to host them on the HSIZ site. You can email me direct at about 50 different email accounts but.... use this one info@hsiz.org to send the files. Also if you haven't copyrighted stamped them I would like to do that for you or if you know how then you can. I love sharing but...their are some ugly people out there. ugh!
a couple of our faveriotes Popcicle Sentences: purpose: easy hands on way to pratice vocabulary and key words. you will need: -a bix box of craft sticks. big ones for the smaller kids or the small ones for older kids (12+ ish) -markers -list of key words or current vocaublary your are studying. write one word on each stick. "on the go" keep sticks in a coffee can or baggie in the car. on the way down the road have someone draw a stick and start a 'progressive story' using that word. each person takes turns pulling one word at a time and adding a sentence or short segment of story using his or her word. you can add to it by having them write, or illiustrate their story when your finished. "at home" the on the go game is still fun at home, or you can do simmiler activities on paper. take strips of paper and write sentences acorss them big enought that a stick will "fill in a blank" (the back side of wraping paper is great for this!) have kids take their sticks and put them in the correct sentences, or make it a little more open ended and let them fill in a whole paragraph. ********************** upside down day a while back we were having a really bad streak of "i dont want to" for EVERYTHING... i dont want to read, i dont want to draw, i dont want to do math..... i got so frustrated i wanted to flip the table over... and then i had an idea!!! Upside down day on upside down day you can wear your clothes backwards, eat dinner for breakfast and breakfast for dinner and we even did our work upside down, by lieing on the floor with papers taped to the underside of the tables... it was a hit, and everyone wanted to do it. now every couple of months the kids will request another inside out/upside down/backwards day... and its a great time to teach spatiual skills to the little ones... inside and outside, over and under... ive got tons more id like to share if you all like these... im excited to see what you have come up with. my creative pool gets shallow in the history department, id love to hear how you all have made history fun! thanks Connie
History is one of my favorites. We have a history notebook that we do all kinds of fun things with. If you are studying a certain time period check out BrainyHistory.com They have a great list of historical events by year. Even an "on this day in history" which we use everyday for interesting teaching ideas. We use our notebooks by writing interesting tidbits of the time period we are studying. We paste pictures, write stories, look up scientific discoveries of the time period, what the trends were, the fashion, the movies(if that recent)... it's never ending. My kid's really have fun with it.
Thanks Connie! Keep them coming! What we do for History and Bible is sometimes we make dolls out of old fashion clothes pins. We use scraps to dress them in and then we act out the lesson to reinforce it. We also made a little puppet stage out of a large box and with sock puppets we also put on a show for Handsome, when he gets home from work so he knows what we learned for the day.
I post my recipes in "other conversation" but I really thing that Amanda should make a few new sections to our site. *Great teaching tips *recipes & houshold tricks
I second that Amy. Maybe she should open a thread somewhere with a title Amanda can't miss to ask for the sections!
