We loved Singapore. They have tons of supplementary workbooks you can get if you need them. There are the regular textbooks and workbooks, but also extra practice books, intensive practice books (slightly harder problems over the same concepts), and challenging word problem books.
We should have a master sticky thread of all the differnt kinds of math, the approach (spiral, master etc) , likes and dislikes. Because i am always reevaluating and asking this same question
I'm another Singapore fan. It does need some supplementation but that's fairly easy. You can use the books mom2ponygirl mentioned or add something else. I've found that Key To... is excellent for that purpose. Catherine zoomed through a Singapore 5 unit on operations with fractions but didn't seem to retain it well enough so we stopped it and started the Key To Fractions books and is zooming through those in record time. Despite what other math programs we've tried, Singapore has always been a constant in our house.
After reading everything and considering my daughter, I think Math U See would be good for her. However, can anyone tell me if it requires a lot of prep work? My daughter is in 6th grade. How long and often does she need to watch the DVD? Does it require a lot of parental time or is it good for independent work?
my dd attacks her MUS, she watches the dvd, then does practice work, there is two or three pages of practice then two or three lessons per viewing. then she takes the test. I have told her she doesnt need to do all the practice work IF she knows it all, but she loves it and insists on doing it all There IS ateacher book too with the lesson work to teach , instruct her with too and at your dds age she may want you to go over it with her. Mine is 14 so its a bit more free will. my ds who is in 6th will either do SoS 8th next year or go to MUS, just because we already have the SOs here,
