What do your kids do ~ extra activity wise? During the whole year. Some things may only be in some months. Do you think it is too much or too little? We do: Music Class 4-H Gymnastics Homeschool Group (gym day and field trips) Soccer T-Ball Sunday School Sunday Church Sunday Night Church Swimming Class I think we do way too much.
As far as what is too much or not enough, this will depend on each family. If you think it is too much, alter it a bit.
Right now my boys are 4 and 5 and we do Homeschool group (park days and field trips), Cubby Bears (church program), Sunday School and Children's Church, And the occassional library or parks department offered class that might be only 2-3 weeks long...This is enough for them now but we'll start looking into other things next year.
here we go. dds do together the following: liberty belle club, 4-H, girl scout. sunday school dds do sepetately: swim, soccer
My oldest daughter plays softball almost year round, takes dance class, attends youth group and Sunday School, and is going to start guitar lessons. My son isn't doing any organized sports right now, he attends youth group and Sunday School, and will be taking guitar lessons soon. My youngest daughter plays soccer, takes ballet, attends a kids club at church as well as Sunday School, and wants to take violin lessons.
My dd currently takes dance and Karate. She will play basketball when the season starts. She would like to take voice lessons and we have downloaded a guitar lesson, but haven't really tried it yet.
My daughter plays soccer in the summer and my son will also next year. She also takes violin, and will be going to Girl Guides and 4H. My son will hopefully be in Beavers this fall.
Ds(7) has CCD, basketball, musical theater class, cub scouts, and archery. Dd(12) has 8 hours of dance per week (she's on a competition team), CCD, archery, and voice lessons. She is also an assistant teacher at the dance studio. Dd(14) is in public high school, is in a couple of clubs there, and takes guitar lessons. If the number of activities works for your family, then dont' worry if it's too much or too little.
We have my son in Karate 2x a week and he does the zoo's Homeschool Fridays--wich only meets once a month for 6 months. I do work 3 days a week at our local Y and the kids go with me and play for the 3 hours I am there---however if I choose to do k4 with my dd next year I don't know if I will continue to work. DD is currently in gymnastics once a week and if she chooses we will continue it after she starts school. Since we also go on learning expeditions fairly frequently I really only want them in one organized activity at a time......
Both dd and ds: 4-H, weekly piano lessons, weekly co-op, monthly book club, monthly public speaking, bi-monthly hs gym class ds: baseball, running events dd: softball
We go to Sunday school and Church on Sunday Violin on Monday (ds) piano on Tuesday (dd) homeschool co-op every other Thursday bowling league Saturday mornings
We live in a whole other world here. Homeschooling is very new here so there aren't many of us to form co-ops with. we go to the beach once a week have the neighbor kids over to play Church on Sunday park day/nature sanctuary in the USA once a month Library once a month The kids help out as we put together Christmas shoeboxs with $ supporters send down. In September as a family we helped pack packpacks fot the school sponsership program. This past summer the kids attended 2 different VBS programs.
My ds (4, almost 5) doesn't have any 'structured' social activities yet. He gets to play with other kids, we just don't have him in any programs. Our local Science museum has classes for kids his age & we might put him in some this year. My dd (10) has (in the past) done basketball, softball, & swimming. My ex-step mom signed her up for them. She may do more sports in the future, but right now I'm not sure. We just met a hser who is starting a homeschool 4-H & my dd will be in that (ds may be in the younger one next year, if we've got enough kids for it), the first meeting is next month. She sometimes does classes at the Science museum & she has guitar lessons (dh is teaching her). Other than that, it's just unstructured social time - play outside with neighborhood kids, time with cousins, etc. I try not to overdo the 'structured' social activities. I don't want our whole day to revolve around when one of the kids has to be somewhere. Plus, we currently only have 1 running vehicle, which dh takes to work (I don't want to get the kids up at 4:40am to drive him to work, so we can have the car), and we're already busy with all the other stuff we have going on - therapy & psychiatrist appts for dd, library day, band practice (dh), dh gives guitar lessons, anger management classes for dd (starting soon), plus errands, family obligations, etc. We simply wouldn't have time for academics if we added in any more social stuff.
We have: Church on Sundays Piano Lessons on Tues Enrichment Program on Thurs (music, art, PE, Computers, Spanish) all day Gymnastics on Thurs Homeschool group for playdates and park days
All 3 kids: AWANA, church league soccer, Sunday School, homeschool co-op on Tuesday afternoons, and sometimes swim lessons but we've taken a long break here lately since they can all swim. Just the Girls: Girl Scouts DD8 just started guitar lessons. DD10 used to be a competitive gymnast but is in early retirement now. Sometimes we attend a local homeschool park day and of course, have playdates sometimes with other homeschool families that we don't get to see often (different churches, etc.) I think that's about it
DD is doing Art (2x/wk) & OT (1x/wk) at the school Soccer (everyday @ school) BRIGHT Lights (1x/mo) Gym Day & Swim Day (1x/mo each) w/ homeschool group DS is doing Art (1x/wk) & OT (2x/wk) at the school Gym Day & Swim Day (same as DD) TSA (beginning in October) They will both be starting a writing class 1x/wk for four weeks in October. After that ends there is class at the local science center that I am hoping to get them into. It runs 1x/mo from November to April. We stay pretty busy but the kids love the activities. DS is really looking forward to starting TSA.
