Can anyone list the learning styles for me? Also is there a way I can figure out what my kid's learning styles are? Maybe a test or something? I have 4 kids under 7 and would love to work with their learning style.
Classical, eclectic, and traditional are a few. I am sure others will list more. If you read up on some of the styles or methods, you might be able to see where your family or child fits. Some children are very hands on and a traditional method might not work for them. I learned by trial and error.
Wow, there are a ton of "learning styles" I did a paper just last summer on it for Childhood Psych. There is Howard Gardner - and his 7 (or 8) intellegences There is Auditory - Kinesthetic - Visual There is the Briggs-Meyers psychological "types" (also known as Meyers-Briggs.) There are a ton of quick quizes online. There have been a ton of books about this...so check out your library. Unfortunatly most of the quizes are for adults, but I have found some of the shorter ones I could "modify" for the kids. (I read the question for them, and explain or give an example so they can understand) I thought the most helpful was Dr. Mel Levine and his books "The Myth of Laziness" and "A Mind at a Time" But they are rather technical and kind of a slog. What has worked for us, so far, is trying to just pay attention. for example. My son can spell orally much better than writing it. So we tried to get him to pause in the test and say the word to himself and spell it in his head before starting on the paper. IF he remembered to do that he would do better. My daughter was very kinetic. She just couldn't sit still...at first it made me crazy, as when I would read to my elder daughter she would cuddle beside me and just listen for hours. dd2 would hang off the couch, stand on her head, turn sommersaults...I was sure she was not paying attention. BUT if I asked, she could tell me exactly what was going on in the story. So I let her move more...you know, lots of breaks between writing sentences and letting her stand on her head while reciting bible verses and spelling words with her body. Sorry for the book... but if you search learning types, you will get more info than you ever wanted!!! You can even buy lesson plans based on Howard Gardners intellegences. (which was not really his "plan")
That is very interesting. I really wanted to know the visual, auditory, etc. styles. Can't remember them all. I want to know how to figure out the way they will learn best based on those. Thanks for your input.
