the kids LOVED them. we used "math" as our subject for this project since it was getting a little boreing. the kids thought it was the best thing in the world, they put so much time and energy into it im so glad its not on a big bulky poster that will end up in the trash or torn up in 6 months.

Noah and i formed numbers out of diffrent textile material and glued them into the file and he colored both sides of his folder

sam copied his addition to 1-10 table, wrote out his key words and did some sample problems as well as elaborate decorations

Jordan wrote her key words and deffinations (each in a diffrent color) and made examples of all the diffrent kinds of fractions we have studied by cutting out pictures from magizines and sectioning them off.

Luke is adding fractions and used most of his time making fractions with magnents on the back that can be moved across the magnent strip he glued in his file so you can actually work problems in his book! (he thought of that all by himself!!!)

im so excited that they were so excited. thanks for introducing us to lap books, these will deffinatly be a big part of our work from now on!

Wow, that is so neat! Isn't it exciting when you find something to do that your kids love? It sounds like you guys came up with great ideas! Congratulations! :D

It'd be neat for me to see pictures of lapbooks, so I get the idea in my mind enough to ever try it with my kids! Once we do one or two it'll be fine, I just get confused at how to begin!

Someone had mentioned magazine holders to store lap books, and I found some in Dollar General for $2.00 each. We haven't started lap books yet, but I bought 3-one for both of daughters and one for myself as they are just the right size for a small binder and workbooks.

ill try to scan them and size down enough to post pictures!

the kids were so disapointed that we wernt doing another lap book today! it took several hours to finish yesterday its not an every day project, but i think maybe we could add one piece here and there when we have little chunks of free time..the key words, sample work etc (all the "boring stuff") and then as a special project when we finish a unit let them spend the afternoon decorating. i dont know, i guess we will just play it by ear the first few times, but this one is deffiantly a winner!

Luke said to me yesterday "math is really boring with pencils, i wish we could use glue and scissors in math every day"

that right there is the reason i homeschool! if all he needs to make the diffrence between hateing math and loving it is a box of markers and a glue stick them im all over it!! he worked his math problems today in alternating colors in 'skinny markers' and decorated the border of the work sheet. magicly a math lesson that would have been pulling teeth and taken half the morning took him 20 minuets AND he got all but 2 right the first try!!!

I agree Connie, That's why I homeschool too! I find things that my kids get a kick out of, or that really motivate them, so we do that! I don't have to say, "no, no, we have to move on!" I can say, "take as much time as you need to get it!" :D Glad you found a key for motivating your little one!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun! I love it when kids get into learning like that. But I'm not really getting this, what are lap books? I do hope you post a picture, it sounds like such a great idea!
