I'm planning on teaching the states with my 2 children. They are a 12 yr old daughter and a 10 yr old son soon to be 11. My youngest is 5yr old daughter. I was just wondering if anyone has good web sites out there for some worksheets that I can copy. I have some sites I use but just seeing if there is anything different. Thanks for all your help.

The sheppardsoftware site is WONDERFUL, not only for learning the location of states, but also countries. My oldest, on her own, used it to learn the countries continent by continent.

I taught states east of the Mississippi about two years ago. We were suppose to continue this year, but didn't. www.enchantedlearning.com has some nice. precise worksheets on each state. They have a state flag coloring page, and a state map with a worksheet to go with it. I would use that, plus I bought the Dover coloring book for the states. There's another web site...am not sure where right now, because I'm on DH's computer. Mine is down and the page is bookmarked on my computer. Anyway, someone here might know what I'm talking about. It's a site with e-postcards for each state. This couple visited each state for a week, and "made" postcards on what they saw. It is very nice. I also contacted the Department of Tourism for each state. They'll send out all kinds of touristy stuff. Some of the magazines are really quite informative, others are nothing more than a giant ad. They will usually send a state road map out, too.

The electricity went off the other day, and we can't get my computer to turn on. It may be fried. So I don't know when I'll be able to find that site for you. Hopefully, someone else will have it.

We did a postcard exchange a while back that was lot's of fun!!! You'll need a budget for stamps and postcards but....it's fun to track the states as they are collected.

We still have just a few states that we weren't able to collect but...the bonus was I managed to get some from other countries.

Here is a yahoo group setup for homeschoolers that want to do this.
