We are going to the Northwest this Thanksgiving and of course we have nothing warm to wear so I went thrift store shopping at my favorite one in San Antonio "Texas Thrift store" I love it there because you can get a lot of stuff that is new still sometimes with tags on them. They put them in size catorgory and color so its easy to look.

It was really busy today there as well as other thrift stores. I heard they are building two more Goodwills here in San Antonio because of the economy being so poor. Its driving people to shop in thrift shops more often to save money.

Anyways I went to go find some pants for my son and some long sleeve shirts. Living in a warm state all we own are warm ups good pants for church and shorts

I ended up with six shirts, one light jacket, two pair of jeans for him and one pair of thick warm ups, one pair of jeans for me and a pair of snow boots for my son. I couldnt believe I found those here in South Texas. I got those for $3

In all I spent $35 which if I had bought all these in Walmart or another store it would have been lots $$.

I remember my mom being horrified when she saw saw me bringing stuff home from the thrift store and said to me, "I hope your going to wash those!" I laughed and said back, "No mom I am going to rub them all over my body first then put them on and wear them just the way they are" She called me a brat in spanish haha the good old days I sure miss her.

Once I showed her the goodies I got, she was amazed and the next time we went she went with me on senior citizen day and I got 20% more off she was tickled she could do that for us hehe Yah I know bad on me but hey its 20%.

I need to do that. My kids don't have any winter clothing - I mean none. We have been in CA the past 6 winters, so staying home this year means starting from scratch. I don't plan to spend a fortune for clothes that I know they will outgrow soon.

I'm glad you found some great bargains! That is fantastic.

Yup I love thrift stores! We also have a store here called once upon a child (it's a chail so if you check out their website you may find one near you) where I can take my kids clothes after they've outgrown them and they will buy them from me and give me either cash or store credit and then I can go and buy new clothes with it or shop in the store and save even more!

There's a lot of military in San Antonio. Since the Army, etc sends us all over the place....I'm not surprised there would be cold weather stuff in S. Texas. I know I have a friend there now and they were previously stationed in Alaska .

Ranchermom, I know there is a new Goodwill opening near the new Alamo Ranch shopping center, inside the Loop.

Myself, I love Salvation Army's half price clothing on Wednesdays!!

we have those here, but they are so picky at what they take........ and the clothes are more expensive to buy second hand than the new kid clothes at my mom's store.

We have a store that does that here too. I take and buy stuff there. They are choosy in what they take but their prices are good. I am in the process of washing snow boots and coats to get ready to take there. Both the kids need boots but only DS needs a coat. As much as I thrift store shop I never buy used shoes or boots.

I'm with you I never buy used shoes. But I will take my used shoes there for someone who will buy used shoes. Mostly I take my clothes there and sell them and then I take the money to buy my clothes at the thrift store because it's cheaper. Although I do buy some clothes at Once Upon A Child if I'm looking for dress clothes or such.

Grissom really? I go that way all the time. What it is it near?

I usually dont buy shoes at thrift shops either unless its for some kind of costume or in this case snow boots that we will wear maybe once this year.

It dosent snow much in San Antonio :)

Ever since they were little, I told the children, "Let's go to the TREASURE store!"

They have YET to groan. Then again they are 8 and 5, so we'll see....

But I call them Treasure stores, because it is true and I like it better! hahaha!

We have a local store that takes 2nd hand stuff & resells it. My mom did buy us some soccer shoes when we were little. They looked like brand new & probably were only used for half a season...fall. LOL!!! Otherwise we used to get jeans & things from there.

My mom has a friend at work that gives us all her kids hand me downs & doesn't expect anything in return. We always get them gift cards around the holidays as a thank you!!!
