this movie is coming out here in time for Christmas. Just wanted to share that warnings that I have heard about it. The author of the books (it is a series) Phillip Pullman, is an outspoken athiest (?sp). He has said that these stories are aimed at killing God in the minds of children It is described as athism for kids:x also that if your kids visit the movie website they can be allocated their own 'spirit guide/demon' after answering a series of questions The books are supposed to be much worse than the movie. I haven't seen the movie or read the books myself, but the warnings came from a trusted source, and that is good enough for me. I just wanted to share in case it's coming where you live too.
I second that. I have also heard from several trusted sources about this movie. We won't be seeing it even though the commercials sort of come across as a "Narnia" type to my kids. I have heard the author HATES C.S. Lewis & Narnia.
There are other threads on this movie already. Feel free to search for them to see the discussions that have already occurred.
Ya know I have not said one word to Samantha about this movie. Last night she came up to me and whispered in my ear "Don't go see the Golden Compass." I just said "Why not?" and she said "Because they want to kill God and that is just horrible". Her best friend told her about it. I wasn't going to see it anyway but it shocked me she knew about it.
We have discussed this movie a few times over on the Other Conversation board. Thanks for sharing your info! I was not planning on seeing it.
A really Christian man who happens to be VERY famous has put his non-approval stamp all over it. This man is very nice and I have had the pleasure to talk to him and his wife in our classroom. Sweet people!! Anyway...heard really bad things about the movie.
That's cute. I am kind of nervous, my Mom said something about taking the boys to a Christmas movie, I mentioned one that is coming out and her response wasn't good. I can't wait to put my foot down for her. (It's not going to be fun! )
I hope I didn't come off sounding rude. I didn't mean it that way. I was just making sure that you didn't miss out on any part of the discussion.
