I'm looking for some good historical books on pilgrims/Thanksgiving for a pre-K and a 1st grader. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure that this would help you, since it deals with other "pilgrims" (immigrants from Russia), but - Molly's Pilgrim is a short chapter book that talks about a little girl from Russia who is having a hard time adjusting to school in the US. Her mother helps her to see that pilgrims have come to America throughout the nation's history. I plan to read it to my dd (almost 4) sometime in Nov.

Hmm...My kids really enjoyed "...If you sailed on the Mayflower in 1620" It's set up as a question and answer style. Only warning is that one or two of the questions, like "Did people break the rules?" In part of the answer it tells "...a man shot another and was hung for his crime". That would be a little to much for my 4 & 6 yr old! BUT I easily skipped over it. I would love to here of any classic style picture book stories about children in that time if any one else wants to chime in.

Am I horrible? I like the two Peanuts cartoons for Thanksgiving. We have them both on DVD.

I second The Thanksgiving Story. We read it last year. We also read another book that Grace liked and I can't remember the name. I went back and looked in my notes and I can't find it anywhere. I will keep looking and see if I can find it for you.

Ok I searched Amazon and found it! It is called An Old Fashioned Thanksgiving by Louisa May Alcott. It is a great book.

We have Squanto, Friend of the Pilgrims and If You Sailed on the Mayflower in 1620 but we haven't read them yet. They are scheduled into our school work and we will be reading them soon.

Here is a list of the Thanksgiving books I have:

If You Sailed on the Mayflower in 1620

If You Were At The First Thanksgiving

    The Pilgrim's First Thanksgiving

    Three Young Pilgrims

This First Thanksgiving Day: A Counting Story

One Little, Two Little, Three Little Pilgrims

    Thanksgiving Is for Giving Thanks

    The Night Before Thanksgiving

    Twas The Night Before Thanksgiving

    A Turkey for Thanksgiving

I bought them when my kids were 3 and 6, some where a little old for them then, but we have brought them out each year (your question made me find them for this year, LOL) and enjoyed all of them. Some are factual and some are silly, but we enjoy them all.

We are reading a Magic Tree house book called Thanksgiving on Thursday. My 6 year old loves it and gets angry when we put it down!
