I'm not sure if this has been posted before so forgive me if it has. And this may be a silly thing to even ask...but hey...I'm learning.

I was wondering if the Educational Software that places like Wal-Mart & Office Max carry would be good to use for Homeschooling?
My kids love being on the computer so I thought it would come in handy but I'm not sure if it would actually count as Homeschooling. Also, those books that you can buy from Wal-Mart & Office Max or wherever else with the Grade levels of Math, Language Arts, & etc. in them...would they work as Homeschooling? Thanks! :)

[IMG] <---- This is the software I found that I was wondering if could be used to help with Homeschooling?

We used that sort of thing when we were first starting out. There is SO much information and curriculum to wade through. I bought a big chunky "Everything" book for each of my kids when we started. It gave us something educational to do while I learned about all the other curruculum available. Since then I've gone with more traditional homeschool curriculums that I think fit our family best. We are starting our third year of homeschooling and this is the first year I didn't buy those chunky books.

Wanted to add, those chunky books are ultra inexpensive at Sam's and Costco!

Educational software is always playing at our house.... it's fun extra stuff for the kids, but nothing required.

    Good Luck!

YES! DefinaelY! thre are a few things , the softwares advance and such that have full curric stuff is good but boring for my kids, we used some of it for "extra" help work.. I thought I would hav ethem work this for to be assured.

But back in the begning of my home school days when we had less cash to spend on things we used the complete book of, and nwo they have comprehensive curric at them as well!
I love thier reading books because they have many subjects that work great to get kids wanting to learn more about subjects for science and history!

Use it, but my advice would be NOT to pay retail for it- you can find in online for cheaper -probably even cheaper than Walmart. I always try Amazon first and there are many educational software websites that sell items at a discounted prices.

Thank you for posting! This being our 1st year, we don't have lots of money to spend on expensive curriculum right now so I'm just looking & hoping to find inexpensive ways to do Homeschooling. Where can I see/get this Complete Book of, that you mentioned? I'd like to check into it! Thanks again! :)

If you're really looking to save money I would highly recommend going to vegsource.com -they have a HUGE homeschooling community for buying and selling. Just be sure to use CRTL + f to search -otherwise it's just too much stuff to sort through

Or even Academic Superstore - most of their stuff is software for grown-ups but they give you like 60% off so it is worth taking a look for kids software too. (And homeschool parents and students are eligible for the discounts)

They have some of those books at Rainbow Resource for $10.50. Wal Mart & Sam's also have them for $15 or less.
We got some software similar to the one in your post. We don't use it all the time, but it does get used. We have hundreds of educational comp programs for the kids. Some were presents, some we bought. I've bought some from PlanetCDRom, they have a lot of stuff free, just pay shipping. They're $5 something each for shipping, but it's still cheaper than $20 at the store.
Also, check out your local library for educational software & DVDs. That way you don't need to buy everything, especially the ones you aren't sure the kids will like, you can just borrow them. Your library may even have some actual homeschool curriculum you can borrow to look over before you decide to buy. Ours has workbooks, scope & sequence books, even Story of the World.

I use amazon for much of my stuff - even some of my religious materials! We just bought Elementary Advantage and Middle School Advantage - even though the science for middle school isn't quite what we are doing this year - ds can still use the info. And there are usually some interactive elements as well, which the kids like.

What I do is buy the software that is only a year or two old - so both of the packages were from 2008, they were both new in the box, unopened, and I paid $2.50 plus $3 shipping for each.

What I do is have each child spend 15-20 minutes on educational software before they can play any games.
