sitting with them to keep focus ~ normal or not

Normal! My kids worked in the same room with me until last year. They still like to be close when they struggle with something. My dd likes to be near me when she takes tests. I only "teach" history now, the rest is curriculum driven self study with me helping when needed.

 

Yep, I have to be right there with them or they get distracted.
