I have to register Daniel with the district for the first time this year. My question is this...he has had some vaccines but not all of them. He will get more but not all of the ones that are on the "required" list. I have to take proof of vaccinations or an exemption form. Should I show a list of the vaccines he's had? Or just hand in the exemption form? Or both? I don't know if they'll believe that I don't believe in vaccines if he's had some, and they may try to "make" me get the rest. Has anyone been in this situation before?
I would just take the exemption form, like you said if they see he's had some they'll try and pressure you to get the rest. Better to just send in the exemption and be done with it all. which ones you choose to give him are up to you as his mother.
I would just take the exemption form. I think (don't quote me) that in my state if you get any vaccines you can't exempt, it's an all or nothing thing. No since giving them ammo if you don't have to...if they need the proof of vaccines, they'll contact you and ask you for it, but I wouldn't open that can of worms unless I had to.
We don't do any vaccines. I would just give them the expemtion form, otherwise you may have to explain yourself. Be careful what form you sign though, because some of them are self-incriminating. We came up with our own to give to the pediatrician because it stated we are aware we may be putting our child(s) life at risk and decline anyway. Children's Protective Services can use that sort of thing against parents.
my son doesn't have all of his either but since in TX we don't have to register with a district or anything,I have never encountered this. Frankly, I'm kind of scared of when and if it does come up for some reason. not to hijack or anything, but how do you go about getting an exemption?
Getting an exemption in TX is super easy. I've needed one in the past for preschool (briefly) and summer camps. Go to the texas.gov website to request one. They'll send a blank form (with the child's name pre-filled), you fill in the check boxes for the vaxes you don't want, and then get it notarized. They send (I believe) 3 forms at a time. Do NOT get them notarized until you need them! They expire at a certain point (5 years?) after being notarized. If you need one, use one, but keep the others in a safe place for later use.
Definately do the exemption form! I wish we would have gone that route to begin with, but since Garrett had been in the PS system already and had had all his shots, we just turned in his shot record... if we would have claimed exemption we could have also claimed exemption on the annual check ups and what not. Also now that we did it that way I feel we will have to do it that way for the rest... silly me not thinking ahead.

Thanks Sommer, that's actually where I've printed ALL of my forms. This whole registering thing is intimidating.
I get my stuff there too It's only scarey the first year, I promise. Now I think every year when I turn in my port. I freak a bit, but I try to reassure myself from things at Pauline's site... they can not tell me I didn't do the right thing as long as I show progression.
