My 8 yo daughter likes to hear herself talk...lol...so I'm thinking I may incorporate this into school somehow. I was thinking of getting her to record something with a microphone on the computer and saving it to a CD for her to listen to...is this possible?

And does anyone have suggestions on what I should get her to record?

I have the idea, but I need some suggestions on how to put it into practice!

Thanks in advance ladies...you're always full of great resources, ideas, and support!

You should be able to record on to your computer through media player (windows) I'm sure and then just burn them to a CD.

How about Math facts, history facts, spelling words, geography, state capitals, read a favorite book out loud?

That sounds like something my girls would like to do as well. I wonder how often they'd listen to it though??

You'll probably save down the road if you just get a cheap MP3 Player, depending on how well your kids take to the recording and burning idea.

Try the free download of a program called Audacity . . . It is easy to use, and if you have a microphone (plug-in or built-in), you will be off and running. Your daughter can not only practice her math facts aloud and record them, she can really practice her understanding of math problems and concepts by explaining them aloud, recording her explanations, and challenging you to write down the process. This teaches clear thinking about the mathematical concepts, and encourages proper labels and vocabulary (you and she will be speaking the same math language over time). Another idea: after a problem solving session, have her record her own story problem that uses the same math concepts. Terry
