For those of you who use sonlight, how long is your school day? Also, what do you do about readers? Do the kids read during your school day or do they read before and then during school you discuss? I'm not talking about the read alouds...just the readers. This will be our first year with sonlight, so I am open to anyone's advice or stories or reviews! Thanks!
Well, my dd just finished Kindergarten. We used P 4/5 along with Grade 1 readers, CLE Math, and CLE Learning to Read. It took us about 1-2 hours/day. At this point I still require her to read the readers to me, so we did it during school time. In another year or two I don't think I will require that anymore. I will probably let her read the readers when she chooses, and then we would discuss them during school time.
We have used Sonlight for 1st-4th grades (core b-e). Our school days vary but our Sonlight work is usually done in a couple of hours (including her reading) and the whole day is usually between 4-6 hours (longer as she gets older and we do more work). As for the readers she does her reading in the afternoon and then the next day I ask her about what she has read. I have loved using Sonlight. Even though I am not fully using them next year I am using a bunch of their readers and read a loud books. I will probably be going back for core 100 and I am not sure about high school yet but I have a few years.
This fall will be my second year with Sonlight. My oldest had to pick between HOD, SOTW, MFW and Sonlight. Sonlight won and she loves it. We had a really difficult schedule at our last duty station with many trips to the base which really screwed up our days. One good days (when we got to stay home) she would be done in five hours. Now that we are stateside with a possible outside activities twice a week within thirty minutes away I think she will still be able to be done within 5 hours.
