I am so excited! Here's the quick version of this story. In July of 2007 my daughter Daisy Grace was stillborn. Soon after I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (that gives the doctors way too much credit...I should say I figured out I had it and MADE them diagnose me. Dumb doctors). We tried to get pregnant for 6 months with no luck so back to the doctor and diagnosed with PCOS. Doctor gave me medication to make me ovulate and it didn't work. DH is not interested in infertility treatments (he says if God wants us to have children He will bless us with them.) Doctor told me the best natural thing I could do to get pregnant is to lose weight. That was in April and I weighed 230 lbs, over the last 7 months I've lost 30 lbs and I won't even get started on trying to lose weight with PCOS & thyroid issues! Anyway to get to the point I actually OVULATED this month! First time in over a year! With no medication or anything. I'm FERTILE again! Dh and I are going to start trying to get pregnant again this month, so please say a prayer for us. If it's God's will that He will bless us with more children.
Oh,I'm so happy for you! God is so wonderful and It sounds like he's really moving in your life! I am praying for you to get pregnant!!!!! Keep us posted!
I hope you get that positive test soon! I can empathize with you on struggling to get pregnant with PCOS. I was diagnosed when trying to conceive our oldest son. It is possible, though... we now have 3 wonderful boys (took 2+ years TTC each one). I have absolutely found that losing weight helps to regulate my cycles (or in most cases, bring them on at all). Do you have insulin resistance with your PCOS? I do, and find that following a diabetic/low-carb/south beach type diet is the most effective for me in losing weight. You'd want to talk to your doctor about this, of course, especially if you're taking any thyroid medication... but many women with PCOS take the diabetic drug Metformin and find it helps with weight loss, also. According to Motherisk, it's considered safe to use when TTC/breastfeeding.
I think I am insulin resistant but my glucose tolerance test came back negative and my doctor won't open his eyes to the possibility that you can be insulin intolerant and still have normal fasting levels. Also he argues that metformin hasn't been proved to help women get pregnant and that's all he cares about (he's my ob). He's not trying to help me lose weight or control my high androgen levels. I think I'm going to go to my family doctor who manages my thyroid issues and see if he will prescribe it for me. Considering all the trouble I've had losing weight sometimes I wonder if it would really help me. Thanks for the PCOS success stories! Sometimes it seems like I will never beat this stupid syndrome.
I am so happy for you and will be anxiously waiting and praying to hear that a little one is on the way. Beth
This may give you some more hope... #1, an old professor of mine has a cervix that is tipped upside down. She was told she could never have kids. She now has 2 beautiful grown-up children. #2, a friend of mine has 2 cervix's. One "dead" one that can't carry a baby, and another one that is only semi-fertile. After going through numerous miscarriages and 2 stillborns...she has 3 beautiful and healthy children! God IS good! Good luck on trying to concieve, and KUP!
