Our church has been showing a DVD on Wednesday evenings about Our American Heritage with David Barton. It has been a very good series. This last Wednesday, it was about education. Did you know that for 240 years (1690-1930) the first grade handbook included some 170 questions that every first grader in America had to know in order to move on to second grade?

    Here are a few examples:
    1. What offices does Christ execute as our Redeemer?
    2. What offices does Christ execute as our Priest?
    3. What offices does Christ execute as our Prophet?
    4. What are the benefits in this life which do flow from our accompany adoption, justification, and sanctification?

    THESE ARE FIRST GRADE QUESTIONS!!!

They also stated that a large percent of high school graduates can't even read their diplomas.

If you get a chance to view these DVD's, they are worth it.

Our Founding Fathers said that education taught in America HAD to include these 3 elements. Religion, Morality and Knowledge.

How far has our government and public schools gone down hill.

    Just had to post this:oops:

Amazing isn't it? The dumbing down of American has been very successful. It's so sad....

I saw a 3rd grade test one time from the early 1900's from a school in West Virginia. I don't think I could have passed it! The questions were so difficult.

Thank you for the heads up on the series! I'm gonna check those out:)

I don't know, but it is biblical based. My church bought it and pastor said I could borrow it. We are going to watch it this school year. We are on disc 8 and I think there are a total of 10.

He also talks about what the Constitution says about the separation between church and state.

There is so much - I can't share all of it, wish I could.

We were reading about the writing of the Constitution. And our country now is the exact kind of country our founding fathers were trying to prevent.

You are so right about that. Here are a few more things that are interesting:

The US Supreme Court building has over 50 depictions of the 10 Commandments displayed in and on its walls.

The Washington Monument is over 500 feet tall. The cap stone on the very top has engraved into it the phrase Glory to God.

Capitol Building has a Congressional Prayer Chapel - room set aside for prayer and Psalm 16:1 is on the stain glass window.

John Quincy Adams had an incredible quote: "Duty is ours, the results are God's"

There is just so much in this series.

David Barton is based here in my tiny little town, his father is the head of a small Christian school here. What's sad, is that if you ask the average citizen here what WallBuilders is , they've never heard of it. Mr. Barton has been criticized by the media for "re-writing" history and deny most of the claims made in his research about our Founding Fathers. I love his material and have really tried to incorporate it into our lessons. He's very involved with trying to encourage Christians to get involved in politics. That's probably why he's made an enemy of the liberal media.

Leissa, I'm sure you are right. I am going to incorporate some if it in our hs, too.
