I was reading on a blog a couple months ago (and I wish I could remember it so I could just link you and not type it all out, possibly getting it wrong, LOL), about a mom who had 3 kids. She used small wall hangings- 1 per child/1 for hubby, like what you could put plants in (you could also use baskets, letter holder, those metal hanging paper holder things- similar to what are in dr's offices for charts- I saw those at Big Lots). Anyhoo, she put things in them each day, for the kids (and one for her hubby) to find and it depicted something special to do that day. For instance it may have been something as "simple" as time with Mom, watching a movie, it could be a pack of crayons and a new colouring book, or say a brochure to the zoo, so they'd know they were going to the zoo that day. I'll see if I can't remember the link and post it. She explained it so much better, but if you can read between my distorted lines  , you can hopefully get my drift. I want to do this, but have yet to find some things that I like that are AFFORDABLE (the ones at BL were $8 each, take that X 3 kids/1 stud muffin). Part of the reason I'm posting this, is I thought it would be a fun HS tool. Field trips, or maybe a voucher for a verbal instead of written test, etc. An extra sticker for a certain job, things of that nature. In one of the other threads (making the first day special) one of the posters said that they keep forgetting to put the fun in HS. This would be a GREAT, yet inexpensive (after "startup costs" LOL) way to make HS fun!
Kayla, that brings back memories!! There was 5 kids in my family and I am the oldest. My youngest sister is 10 years younger than I am. We made our mailboxes out of paper lunch sacks and hung them by our bedroom doors. We would send "mail" to the Purple room (mine) and her addy was the Pink room. I still have some of the notes from her! We are now 44 and 34 and rarely get a chance to talk but it is neat to look back on these things. Some of them are from just before I joined the Army and are sad as she was only 9 at the time. Occasionally I would stick something like a hershey bar or buy her a little trinket. Have fun with it!!
That is a neat idea! Ds actually has a real mailbox that is sitting on our fireplace. At craft time at the library they had one and they could "mail" stuff and he LOVED it, so we got him one. My father-in-law is a mailman, and it must be genetic, because ds loves playing mail. Right now it is just full of little toys and junk mail that he likes, though. : )
I had mail boxes for the kids that they had decorated (they were small mail boxes that I found at the craft store) I put little notes for them with a little sticker or sucker or something at leat once a week while they were having quiet time. They didn't last, and even the little lunch boxes we used after that got squished and I just don't do them any more.
JoAnn Fabrics has some of those very containers on sale really reasonable right now. They are $14.99 for the whole thing and there are 3 connected together. They even have slots to add a name tag. They are on page 4 of the sales flyer (they are in a picture with a lot of other Interior Accents. Look for the green metal magazine rack on the wall). http://joann.shoplocal.com/joannsal...pretailerid=-99845&siteid=228&storeid=2412143
what a neat idea...i think my kids would really like this; i'll have to try and set something similar up here!
We have a snoopy mailbox in the basement, I think I'll bring it up and make some good use out of it! Thanks for sharing, what a good idea!
I love this idea!! It's something I'm going to try once we get moved! I'm not hanging anything new on the wals right now.
I really like the idea too, especially hanging them on the kids doors. I may drop by the dollar store to see if there is anything plastic with vents that I can use. Different colors would be cool!
Ooooh, let us know what you find! Anyone that does this, let us know what you plan on putting in them, and maybe post pics!
