hi... back in september, i posted in here about my best friend (a male cousin) who had left for work out west - this is my old thread .....he's still working out there, and did indeed get to come home for a week at Christmas.... earlier tonight, i took my husband (who is legally and in God's eyes now truly my husband, as we were common law for the last eight years until this past sunday, when we got properly married at our church  ) to the airport....because he's headed out there to work at the same company. people often refer to their husbands as their "other half", and he really is... i feel like half my heart got on that plane and flew away. i can't let the kids know how upset i am about this; they need to know that things will be okay, and they won't feel that security if they see me looking like a pile of wet rags. he'll be 5000km away from 'home' - he's never been away from us for anymore than a couple of days (this was his first time on a plane as well) and i know this is going to be really hard for him... this is way unlike anything he's ever done....he made the choice to go out there for many of the same reasons that a lot of island men have done this - trying to make a better life for their families... please, if you have a chance, ask God to look after him out there................
Sevenwhiskers, I'm praying that he'll find a job that's perfectly suited for him. What type is he looking for? I pray that he and your cousin will be so successful that they'll be able to return home sooner than they had thought and that their wives (You! Congratulations!) will find peace in the Lord's provisions and much support from the family and friends who are near you. I know what it's like to try to be brave and "all together" for your children--although in different circumstances. Blessings!
thank you, all of ya, for prayers and for the congrats on the wedding  (i'm so glad we were able to do that before he had to leave) Prairie, he has a position lined up right now with a mining company - the same one my cousin works for, so that's good at least...totally different jobs {cousin's is a mechanical job and dh's will be more warehouse/parts/shipping/etc} but at least it's the same place...they'll also be living in the same house too - in fact, dh may be crashing on my cousin's floor on an air mattress for a few weeks until the landlady has his room ready...it's a boarding house of a sort.....though just rooms rented, you do your own meals and stuff...... he's still in transit right now - he had an overnight wait in toronto last night (charlottetown - toronto) and now he gets on another flight at 7am their time (so 8am where i am) and flies to calgary, then has 4 hours in calgary until his last flight right up to Fort McMurray......he called last night from the hotel he stayed in (his brother gave him the money to do that rather than be stuck overnight in the airport which would have been yuck) and this morning from a payphone at the airport.... he's not too impressed with this whole flying thing though - he said the "cruising" part wasn't so bad, but he really really didn't like the take off and landing parts......i said wait until today - it was dark last night so you didn't get to really SEE what it's like from up there... wait until today, you'll have such an awesome view.....i don't think he quite agrees with my use of the word 'awesome' though. i slept in his hoodie last night. it's big and blue and has his name on it because it was a work sweater and i may never wash it because it smells like him. okay, i'll have to wash it eventually.
That has to be tough!! Many thoughts and prayers going out to you as well as your new husband (congrats on that!!).
This part made me smile. When dh left last week I started sleeping in the hoodie he usually sleeps in--and I found out it is really warm and cozy! Unfortunately, as soon as he got there he called and asked me to mail it to him. I hope you get to hang on to yours! I hope you guys have a great day today!
Congrats girl! We have something in common, except my dh and I are going on 20 years. Will pray for his safe arrival and a good job.
Will he be staying in Fort McMurray? I have friends there that are missionaries. If he is staying there, have him look them up and attend their church. Congratuations on your marriage and will pray for you and your family. Will you be going up there to live or is this just a temporary job?
I am praying as well! Congratulations on your marriage! MamaBear, when is your anniversary? We're coming up on 20 years also!
Deena and MamaBear, Happy anniversaries! You gals that slept in your hubbies' hoodies brought tears to my eyes. That is precious! SevenWhiskers, my dh and I have our private pilot's liscences. The take-offs and landings are my favorite parts: you can feel the interaction of the plane with the air most vividly then. The air actually compresses to form a "pillow" under the plane when you land, and I always enjoyed the feeling of breaking through that and touching down. It might reassure your dh to be reminded that percentage-wise there are far fewer plane accidents than land vehicle accidents. Our hs group is planning to visit a salt mine in the next few weeks. What type of mine will your hubby be working for?
