My daughter and I have been trying to come up with some new ideas for homemade Christmas gifts. I already make candles and was wondering if anybody knows if lip balm is as simple. Also if anybody has a recipe for lip balm I would really appreciate it. I thought we could make these and attach them to the ribbons of the gift.
Any information would be a blessing. Please and Thank you!!! :)

I just did a web search under "Lip Balm Recipe" and looked like there were tons of recipes out there! Have fun!

P.S. You are really on the ball thinking about Christmas gifts to make already. I usually wait until about 1-2 weeks before and then I'm scrambling!

    Lip Gloss (from www.familyfun.com)
    MATERIALS:
    1 tablespoon solid vegetable shortening
    1 teaspoon honey
1 packet (.13- to .23-ounce, or enough to make 2 quarts) unsweetened flavored powdered drink mix, such as Kool-Aid
    ΒΌ teaspoon hot water

Time needed: 30 Minutes or Less
    1. Combine the shortening and honey in a small bowl.

    2. In a separate bowl, stir together the drink mix and water until the powder is dissolved.

    3. Stir the water mixture a drop or two at a time into the base mixture, until the gloss is colored and scented to your liking.

    Tips:
To save the lip gloss for another day, refrigerate it in an empty lip gloss pot or other clean container for up to three days.

I saw a discussion once where this should last more than 3 days and all the ingredients in it are shelf stable, unless its in a hot place.

also if you check www.orientaltrading.com they sell the little buckets the lip gloss goes in and even have kits for it.

    Thanks!!!
My husband teases us, in a loving way, because he will come home from work and we are listening to Christmas music while we make our crafts, in the middle of a hot July day. I tell him we do it to trick our minds into thinking it is cooler than it is but really the music puts us in the holiday spirit and helps us enjoy our craft time a little more than we already do.

I have been thinking about making the kool-aid one but I don't have any thing to put it in, once some one thought the little things film comes in but that would have a chemical residue.

You could probably clean out old lipstick tubes, allow them to dry and reuse them.
We are going to start with the Kool-Aid lip balm. Emma likes the idea of using the Kool-Aid.

    Emma's mom,

What are you going to put the lip balm you make in?

At Michael's they have lip balm containers I plan on using. I was looking over e-bay and found a bunch of lip balm tubes and little clear containers. I just might order them in bulk but for now I'll use the containers from Michael's as a start.

I was thinking that it would be really neat to put fine cosmetic glitter in the lip balm. First I need to figure out where to buy it. Actually, I should first learn to make the stuff, then move on to the glitter. :)

one of the girls got a "make up" kit (for kids) from christmas, I put a little vile of that glitter up because they didn't know what to do with it and I didn't want it to get every where. It might even be in the cosmetic section at a store...... havn't bought make up in a while.

I found a whole bunch of different color cosmetic glitter on e-bay. It is ultra fine and can also be used for soaps and candles. Most of it appears to be sold in 1oz. bags. The price seems reasonable when you consider that glitter goes a very long way. Now I am really excited!!! :D
I can't wait until my husband gets home so I can tell him. I know exactly what he'll say.
"More crafts!!! Don't you ever get enough of it?"
And of course I tell him,"No. You have to keep moving up in the craft world." Then he'll smile and remind me not to go overboard with the money.
    I can't wait!!!

Wal-mart has small containers over in the travel size things or you could check at a soap supply place. They usually have small containers. The one near me also sells things for lotion - so they sell small containers. They also have a website. www.starrville.com

Thanks for the link. They have some really nice products. They even have deodorant tubes. Can you imagine that? Hmm!!! Maybe if I run out of craft ideas I will start to make my own deodorant. You never know what they'll come up with next.

I also bought some of the glitter there. It was $4.00 for 3 Tablespoons. Green, light blue and silver. They are so pretty. The girls love them.
My husband makes colloidal silver soap and this is where we get the glycerin soap. They also have the cocoa butter, oils, scents and colors. We made soap with colored stars inside.
They also have all the details about projects and instructions.
