do any of you teach Japanese? ds has asked a few times to learn it, and again today. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the easy French, b/c it is sooo easy! So I need something like that, b/c of course I don't speak any Japanese (or French for that matter). Why don't they want to learn German? (I can speak some of that....too easy, lol)

So haven't started researching yet, but thought I ask for recommendations first.

We do Japanese and we use Rosetta Stone. I love it. In fact, I am falling in love with this language and the culture.

I realize RS is expensive and I had to use the payment plan to get the 3 level best deal, but all in all I feel it is worth it. You have a lot of control over what you want them to learn, for example:

If you want them to learn Kanji they can. It isn't easy, that's for sure, but they teach it and they expect them to know it and then they test it.

We hate reading/writing kanji days....they are HARD! But fun and challenging at the same time. It is very satisfying to finally get them right, even if we cheat a little.

I think the RS Japanese is very easy to both learn and teach. In fact, it requires no parental input at all as far as I can tell. Literally, I write "Do Japanese" on the board and he "Does Japanese".

He's on the first level, section 2 right now. I selected the full year (longest program with reading, writing, and speaking) so you go through things a little slower than if you didn't want to teach the writing part.

    I give it a 10 out of 10.

Pricey yes, but worth it. Oh, and he really loves it. He was asking for Japanese for over a year before I gave in and I am so glad I made sure that we went with the right language for him. Otherwise it could be a huge waste of money.

Tell Me More has Japanese and tends to be a bit cheaper than Rosetta Stone. HS Buyers Co-op recently had a great group buy for TMM. Don't know when they might have it again but I do think they're currently having one for Rosetta Stone (don't know if Japanese is one of the languages). It doesn't cost anything to be a member and we've purchased 2 services from them with zero problems.

I haven't taught mine anything, but how to count. When I was in school we had a foreign exchange student in the school that I hung out with! She taught me to count & sing Jingle Bells!! LOL!!!
