    Hi all.

I'm looking for help with my son's science fair project. It is a study of the relationship between sound and human cognition and is being conducted via an online survey system. Because of individual variations in observed responses, statistical results are most often achieved in studies like this, so getting more people to take the survey will help get better results.

This survey will take about 15 minutes to complete. You will need to ensure this time is uninterrupted. You will also need to use a computer that has speakers, so that you can hear audio files.

All project surveys must be completed by February 28, 2007 in order to be included in the analysis.

If you would like to participate, please send me a private message, and I will send you the URL.

    Thanks! :D

FYI. Children middle school aged and higher may also participate.

I will be happy to post information about the experiment and the results here upon completion. However, my son cannot give out any information about the experiment before it occurs, otherwise, the results could be tainted.

I have to run to a meeting. I'll be back later tonight. If anyone else wants to take the survey, Kris can feel free to share the link. (Please don't post the link publicly as we don't want a bunch of crazy teens to grab the link and purposely mess up the results. This is a concern we are trying to mitigate. )

So I'm rather annoyed. My son did a live survey at school today. I don't know where the teachers were, but according to my son, about half the kids were disruptive and didn't take it seriously. So at least half his data is bad. He did inform the teacher, and she said she would take care of it, but what about his data???? ARGH.

The science fair project is going well, and we are getting some very interesting results. Thanks to all who have participated. If anyone else is interested, the survey will be open through Wednesday evening 2/28. Thanks!

Let's just say that some very consistent patterns have emerged, as is evidenced when the averages are plotted on a graph. Patterns which cannot yet be explained... When the questionable student data is filtered out, the patterns become even more distinct. We're hoping to get more data points to see if the patterns continue to hold both with and without the student data.

My son had his guitar lesson this evening and showed the graphs to his teacher. He thought the results were very interesting as well, but had no good explanation. He pointed my son to a book that talks about the science behind music. Coincidentally, one of my husband's music buddies gave him a copy of a book on Saturday regarding what music does to the brain. I'm hoping these books will help explain what is being seen.

My father was saying we should calculate the confidence intervals to determine whether the data is really any good or not. I agree, but think that may be a bit much for an 8th grade science fair project. And, while I'm having a lot of fun with this, my son is supposed to be doing the work, not me!
