Can those of you who use institute for writing excellence help me figure out what to order? Is the bulk of the program Teaching Writing: Structure and Style or do I need to order something else?

    Iew

Teaching Writing: Structure and Style is the 6 CD set (with an additional 3 DVDs of student writing workshops for Grades 2-4, 5-7, 8-10+) the writing workshops are basically 1 class (I haven't watched all of them yet) to give you an sample of each program level: Group A, B, or C. These are the DVDs for the parents to watch that give you explanations or the "why" behind his teaching methods for everything covered in all of the student DVDs in all of the levels - A,B + C.

The students DVDs are the "Student Writing Intensive" and you choose what level A, B, or C. There are 4 DVDs in these sets, and hours and hours of instruction. My son watches a portion, then works on the assignment, then in the next segment Andrew Pudewa usually reads examples of students assignments - which we find really helpful. Also, there are free lessons plans on the website, to add additional practice.

If you want even more! There are continuation courses for each level - with 9 DVDs. We are doing continuation course B now. (As an alternative, you can just advance to the next level up in the Student Writing Intensive - which is cheaper $99 - the continuation courses are $240 ouch! - but I will make sacrifices in other areas to make sure my son has good writing skills! - as I am not naturally gifted in this area! :)

I highly recommend getting the set of Teaching Writing: Structure and Style in the set with the "Student Writing Intensive" at whatever level you need. A is generally 3-5, B is 6-8th, and C is high school. The set is $229

Let me know if I can answer any more questions you may have! Oh, the Teaching Writing...and Student Writing intensive both come with a small binder and misc. handouts and outlines.
    Hope this helps!

So get the parent DVDs plus the student writing intensive and I'd use level A. (DD is in 3rd) Right?

Thanks for your help. The website is a little confusing for me! LOL I have one more thing I want to try. . .and then if I still can't get dd to write, I think I will go ahead and make the investment.

I want to order too. I just need to get all of my curriculum purchased for next year and see how much money I have left over. I think I'm all set for next year, once all of my books arrive that is. I am hoping for a good tax return then I can buy these set's and work on them over the summer. I think we'll take a summer break for history and science and continue with math and language at a slower pace for the summer.
One question though, will these dvd's work with another language/grammar curriculum like Shurley English or Abeka Language? I just ordered Shurley and I"m not sure if Shurley and this dvd curriculum would be too much work to cover?
