I have not gotten a whole lot of sleep lately and I`m a walking zombie! First let me tell you about my weekend. First we had a 4th of July/ Birthday party for my 9yo dd on the 4th. A couple of days later she gets sick and is pucking her little guts up. I felt so sorry for her. That lasted well into the night. But about 24 or so hours later, she was fine. Then my sil calls to tell us (yes she was at the party) that both her boys have LICE! One took a nap in my dd bed and the other was in the pool all day with my dd. Well my 9yo dd has hair down past her hinny! I immediately started washing everyones hair in lice killer shampoo. (I had some because someone in our church had it recently and I was going to use it as a precaution) Anyway, I scrubbed everyones head then started washing all bed linens and my dh started spraying all the furniture with lice killer. I had found what I believe was a few nits in dd`s hair. I looked at one under the microscope and thats what it looked like. Well after I washed her hair I checked again and found a few more. So we went through the whole process again!! Then my 5yo dd starts throwing up right after we put her to bed and continued to do so for the rest of the nite! I did not even try to lay down until about 4 am. Well I still was not totally convinced that I got all the nits so I went online to find a home remedy. I tried vaseline. I knew it would be a lot of work getting it out but I wanted to make sure. OMG!!! I can`t seem to get it all out! I went back online to find a way to get it out and I have been using cornstarch and clarifying shampoo for 2 days now. It seems to be working.. but ever so slowly. This is after I used Dawn dish soap, baking soda, a bar of soap, and shampoo. ( not all at the same time) I went to my dh on the verge of tears. He said " You look like your gonna cry" He felt so sorry for me. Now I am COMPLETELY exhausted but I can`t sleep! My hands are so weak from all the scrubbing I have done in the past 2 days. ( I know you can`t tell from all this typing lol) Oh well sorry for such a long post. Hope I didn`t bore anyone. I think I may try to go back to bed now.

I've been through head lice!!! NOT FUN!!! I found some on my oldest when she was four; am not sure WHERE she picked them up! But that was a piece of cake compared to the second time. We discovered them on my son EASTER NIGHT, after spending the day at G'ma's house with the cousins! We THINK we might have got them from church (there was a family who ALWAYS came down with them), but when I called my MIL to tell her, she told me that my nephew had been treated earlier that week. ANYWAY, me and all three of my children came down with them!!! We had a VERY difficult time! Finally, someone at my daughter's dance told me about an "electronic" nit comb. It's costly, but really helped with three long-haired ladies! You comb it through the hair, and whenever it touched a louse, it would beep and kill it (by a small electrical shock). It REALLY worked well!!! Of course, this happened over my DH's spring break from school. I was SUPPOSE to get one day off all to myself. THAT sure didn't happen, lol, because of all the cleaning, etc.

Believe me, this, too, shall pass!

Oh, have you bagged up all the stuffed animals? They need to be either washed or bagged for two weeks. Also, THROW AWAY YOUR SWEEPER BAGS!!! Otherwise the eggs you pick up with it will hatch, and can actually get back on your carpet!

We've had lice here twice, and it was almost impossible to get rid of the first time. I did not find any of the regular lice treatments that actually worked. I tried vaseline, too. You're right. It was a HUGE mess to clean up! The one thing that I found to really work was a natural lice shampoo from the health food store. It has oils in it that smother the lice. You will need a good comb. The bottom line is you have to keep combing until all the nits are out. The last time we had them, I combed everybody's head every day for 2 weeks. The plastic combs that come with the regular lice shampoo did not work for us. I had to buy one of the metal ones. Never heard of an electronic comb, but it would certainly help with finding them all! Good luck. I ceratinly hope I never have to deal with it again (you either!) Oh, and like Jackie, we are fairly certain that my girls picked it up at church.

It sounds just awful. If you don't have a lice comb you may want to get one. I hope things get much better for you all.

Years ago, we got measles, mumps and chicken pox, sound like the new thing is lice. Keep combing, and combing and combing.

Getting out the nits aren't as important as they use to be. It use to be that the lice shampoo only killed the adults, so the nits had to be removed or they would hatch. But now, there's lice shampoo that also kills the nits. It's more expensive, and you should still comb them out, but it's not absolutely essential, like before.

Yes, we had it here all three of us.. oh my stars what a chore it is... it takes along time before you feel clean again.. if you know what I mean...
But, I found out if you use the store brand and buy several combs and throw them away after each use it worked the best.... the only thing I can say is clean, clean, clean and clean some more... I know you are tired wish I was closer to help, but cleaning is the only thing that takes those things away.

Yes, I did bag all the stuffed animals. I did read that if you run them through the dryer for 20 min. on high heat then that would kill the lice. I did that with one animal. My dd got a kitty from Build-a- Bear and I had to bag it. She was so upset, so I ran it through the dryer and gave it back to her.

That's what I did with pillows. I also washed sheets, etc. in hot water EVERY day until I found no more nits.
