How long are you planning to take off for any/all of the Holidays?

My vacation started on Friday, being the start of gun deer season on Saturday. Two from my household headed to The Great White North in search of deer.

We will return to the official school work on Dec. 1st.
Then I plan to take off from the 19th of Dec. till January 5th.

We're off Thursday and Friday (plus the weekend) for Thanksgiving.

For Christmas Break, we're taking Dec 20-28 for sure (since my mom will be visiting). I'm not sure if we'll take the week off before New Year's or not....depends on hubby and what days he gets off from work.

We may just do "fun" stuff that week....I'll sneak in some learning ......shh......don't tell them!!:)

We are doing minimal stuff this week - fun arts & crafts type stuff. I plan to start a Christmas Unit Study next week along with regular lighter school work (math needs to be done and whatever else I guess)

I don't know when my in-laws are coming for Christmas.... so can't plan that week - but it will probably be lighter as I need to get the house clean and food cooked etc for the holidays. I don't even know how many people I'm having - LOL

we're doing regular stuff mon and tues. Then wed the school district is off so I'm using that as a make up day and we're going to do "fun" Thanksgiving type stuff, watch a few vids about it, color/paint, just fun stuff. Then Thursday off. I was going to take Friday as our make up day too but I may just call it a holiday and make the other day up on a snow day. :)

    WAAAAAAAA!!!!

We planned on taking off starting this week until the Monday after New Years. We started in July just for this reason. Planning out a perminate year around schedule. What we didn't plan was a baby gonna be born in May, so we want to finish up by mid April. SOOOO that means we will only take off Thursday this week, and then 2 weeks at Christmas, Birthdays and New Years.

Next year we will get the whole month off though :)

We are taking off Thursday and Friday this week. Wednesday I plan to have a fun Thanksgiving day, just worksheets, books and movies about thanksgiving. For Christmas we will take December 18 to January 5th off (that's Hubby's vacation time). Grandparents from out of town will be here for part of that time. I am sure we will have lots of fun learning experiences during that time, but no math or phonics or sitting down to normal school work.

We are still doing school work today, tomorrow and Wednesday. Wednesday is actually the last day of our first 12 week term for the year. Then begining December 1st my oldest will have a week of testing and then the next Monday we will beging week one of term 2. I haven't decided how long we will break for xmas. Depends on how long my company stays. I have friends coming from Minnesota and then my parents come for a couple days.

Yikes, Tiff. You're making poor Sam stress over testing over Turkey Day vacation;)

I'm trying to get all the girls tests (math and english plus vocab for DD10) in this week so we can have a stressfree holiday.

Of course, that's the "plan". I know DD10 is on track. DD8 is always "iffy".

[I'm just messing with you Tiff, I think it's great you have a 12 week plan and are actually following it!]

    We take thursday/friday off.

Beginning the following monday, the books will be put away but we'll still be "schooling" as we will be starting on our Christmas present making. The gaps will be filled in with ed.videos, computer, reading, etc.

We will finish some math today for Emily and Crystal will finish hers tomorrow. There are two chapters left to finish reading in a Sisters in Time book that I want to finish today with Emily and Freddy is finishing a Science lesson with both of them today. They also will do a few regular lessons that they can do on their own. Then tomorrow we bake and prepare food for Thursday. Thursday and Friday are days off and we will get busy again on Monday. We will decide about Christmas days off soon.

We're taking Thursday and Friday off, while today and tomorrow are minimal "regular" schoolwork and some Thanksgiving themed writing, history, grammar (Mad Libs: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/ngkids/games/wildandwacky/wildandwacky_0311/wildandwacky_0311.html), math, and science.

As for Christmas time, we take many days off but are flexible. We definitely don't take a solid 2 weeks off--my kids get bored, and it's extra hard to get back into the routine of things. We'll do Christmas related stuff, I'm sure. I just haven't planned it yet.

:DYeah I know you're messing with me.

See we are actually a week behind schedule due to Hurricane Ike. We should have finished our first 12 week term last Friday and she should be doing her tests this week Mon - Wed and begining a new term next Monday. We didn't have power for 2 weeks and the neighbor kids were out of school for over a week during the hurricane. My friend next door talked me into giving Sam a week off so the kids could play.

Our little one is in PS Pre-K, so we tend to follow her schedule. She is off beginning tomorrow, so the older one and I probably won't do homeschool either. We'll go back to it on Monday and keep going with our regular routine until my parents arrive sometime in December, and then we'll stop while they are here. Hopefully next year the little one will be home, too, and we can make up our own schedule. :)

we usually take this week off because of travel plans so I automatically blocked it as a holiday in my lesson plans for the year, Dd , SOS has today and tomorrow yet, cause dh did her schoolwork set up. So ds is off this week, and ds older is too his school is off this week. The only one doing anything is dd and SHe loves school so that worked out well!
For Christmas I have two weeks blocked but they know they have to meet thier goals or they dont get it all!
We usually wait till the friday before Christmas but since it is on a thursday this year... we may wait till the 24th, but we will see

We are doing school through Wednesday. Then we were supposed to take off school until January 2nd. We intentionally started school on July 9th so that we could take the whole month off for vacation. Some plans have changed so we are going to do some school when we aren't busy. This way we will still be ahead of the game when we kick into full speed again.

Thats what I do when I take time off, m poor kids, ds said the other day when talking about writing a letter to someone and me mentioning I could count it as one of his writing projects.."Argh! Mom, you make everything school! I can't do anything with out it being school!" So I explained think of it this way, you could do something really boring or soemthing you would have done anyway and get credit for it ? lol!

Patty, I thought I was the only crazy one who started in July!

I'm kind of disappointed that we won't be taking Dec off. But it will be so worth it when we are done in April and I can spend all of May and June enjoying our babymoon!

I can really get creative once I have one child cause we will whiz through school then I know it!

We're actually suppose to have a 4 day weekend, but I told my two that if they don't get caught up they have school work on Thursday and Friday. I'm hoping my threat works, but if it doesn't I guess I get to follow through.
