http://distancelearn.about.com/od/accreditationinfo/a/regional.htm there's a link and it lists Middle States. That may be the same one and therefore would be recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. I may have missed that one; what is the fee schedule for PennFoster I wonder? American School is under a thousand, including books/shipping, for the four years, not each year :)

Another thing to check into. Here in Ohio, all private and public school children are required to pass the 9th grade proficiency test to graduate. Yes, I know! To pass 12th grade, you have to take a 9th grade test. Makes lots of sense, doesn't it? Anyway, HS'ed kids are NOT required to take this. But my understanding is that e-school kids are considered "private" and not "homeschooled", and ARE required to take the test. Now, I'm not dealing with high school quite yet, so I may be wrong. I also know this is different state to state.

Ok what books do American use and how can you check the books out first to see if you will like them before you buy them

Their book list is online but it's a big outdated but is mostly accurate. I'd be happy to send you an updated list I'm keeping for my own informational purposes.
You can "check them out" that way. If you want to see a book I suppose you would own the burden to somehow acquire them so you could look at them.

They are from Carson-Dellsoa Publishing Company. I found them at Books a Million. They meet the NCTM Standards. They have skill practices along with Assessments. They have clear and easy to follow directions and examples.
