Thought I might want to introduce myself before I start posting.

I am married to my wonderful dh and am a sahm to my two beautiful children, my bouncy almost four year dd and my full of smiles six month old ds. We plan to foster older children in the near future and adopting as well.:D

We are new to homeschooling, but we feel very led in this direction to homeschool our children until God says otherwise, if He does. I plan to start a semi-school oriented schedule next week with my daughter. I'm using "Little Hands to Heaven" for now, just to get started, but when she's done with that and she's ready, we plan to switch to either the Sonlight pre-k and/or My Father's World. If anyone has any experience in either of these, I'd love to hear from you! And, of course, we'll do 'field trips', cook in the kitchen, and of the like, which will be the actual bulk of our homeschooling for now.

I look forward to posting with all of you! I've been looking for a homeschooling forum that was actually active :)lol: ) and it seems this one is.

Not sure what else to say. What do you want to know?:p

Welcome Sunshine! This is a great forum, for sure. We also just started homeschooling. My oldest is nearly 5 (in *sniff* 4 days) so we've just started K.

We don't always have all the answers, but you'll always at least get support and prayer.

    Welcome!

How exciting to be starting on your home learning journey!

I'm a fan of Sonlight and have experience with 1,1/2, 3, 5 and 6. I have friend who has done K as well. Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Wow, I feel like we must have gone shopping together! This will be my first year with Little Hands to Heaven - plan to use it with both of my sons and the daycare kids. Than my daughter is using My Father's World this year also. It is a brand new curriculum for us, but looks like a great fit for our crazy days.
Glad to have you with us!

Forgive me, ladies, for not thanking you all for welcoming me sooner! I appreciate the welcome very much!

Amie, happy 5th birthday to your oldest!!:D

Michelle, thank you and I will definitely let you know if I have any questions in the future!

    Patty, thank you!!

Dana, I am in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia.:)

Claraskids, that's too funny! I was also thinking about doing a bit of daycare on the side with some older preschool aged children and I was also going to use My Father's World and Little Hands to Heaven! Too funny!

KrisRV, looks like a great board and I hope I will, too! Thank you!!

See you all on the boards!!:D

Amie, I just noticed in another post of yours that you live in MO. I'm a born and raised Missourian. Where are you in the great show-me state? I'm from Kansas City.

    Sunshine,
How is it going with "Little Hands..."? I won't be starting it till September - wanted to wait until the change from summer daycare kids to school year kids. PS here starts day after Labor Day, but my dd8 has started back already. She's spending a few weeks with her grandparents next month, so we needed to get a head start.

    Sunshine,
Welcome. I am Beth in NC. We will be starting our second year next Monday. I read your introduction and my heart did a little jump for joy! My husband and I were foster parents for over 20 years and fostered 116 children from the ages of 3 weeks to 17 years old. We have three grown birth children and 4 adopted children. Our kids are 34, 30, 30 (twins) 17, 17 ( not twins ) 14 and 9. Please let me know if you start fostering, I would love to hear how you like it. I loved our years as foster parents and hated to stop but my husband was almost ready to retire from law enforcement and he was ready to stop. It is a long crazy story but he felt it was best for our youngest two daughters. So I miss it but we always said if one of us wanted to stop the other would respect that. I still talk to our old social worker and she keeps me updated on how things are going. I hope you love it as much as we did. Beth

Ladies, I'm so sorry for not responding sooner, but we've had a family emergency and I haven't been around to respond. (All is well now). Please forgive me, but I did mean to check back here.

Springfield, eh? We have some friends who moved there for a year and just left a little over a month ago to their mission field in Chile. I've been there once and I think my brother lives there, but not sure (long story). I'm sorry you don't seem to care too much for it, but I know how you feel. I'm not too keen on where we live now, either, but it's home for now and I've adjusted enough to survive.

Little Hands to Heaven? What's that? No seriously, with all that has gone on, we haven't even started. We plan to next week, though! How are you liking it?:)

Beth, thank you for welcoming me, too! It also makes my heart jump for joy to hear someone else was a foster parent and your testimony about it! Thank you so much for sharing! I was a foster kid growing up, so I know how it feels to be a foster child and that's why it's so near and dear to my heart! I know there are going to be rough times, but since I am a veteran foster kid, I know to hang in their with them and see them through.

I desperately want to adopt foster children, but specifically older ones. I always wanted to be adopted and to this very day, I still secretly wish I was. That's what fuels my desire to adopt older kids.

I can't wait to do this and when we do, I'll let you know how it goes! I know it's different being the foster parent than the foster kid, but I know we'll adjust well. I hope to do it until God says otherwise!:D

Hi Sunshine! When you came aboard I was on a leave..lol. I was trying to break a horrible internet addiction.. here it turns out this site is the root of the addiction..lol.. and I couldn't stay away!

It's awesome that you turned out so well in the foster system!! And even more awesome that you want to help the system, and more importantly the kids who get sucked into it. Kudos to you!!!

Thanks, Sommer, for the warm welcome! Yes, boards can be very addicting, I know! I've had to take breaks, too.

As for turning out well in the foster care system, I give all praise to God for that, because without Him, I would not be where I am today! CPS, sorry, didn't do anything for me, but thankfully, God had His hands on me the whole time!:D

And I plan on helping the kids in foster care, I don't plan on helping the foster care system.;) It sometimes irks me to think they will even be involved in my life again, especially since I'll be a hs'ing mama, but it's out of pure obedience to God and a heart for foster kids. He'll work out the details.

Again, thank you for the warm welcome and I look forward to chatting with you and everyone else!

    Hi, and Welcome!

I'm new here, too and I am a foster parent. We have been fostering for almost 4 years and have had 16 placements. We adopted our son, now 2 years 5 months from foster care -- he was 2 days old when he was placed and his adoption was final when he was 19months old. Right now we have 2 little boys, ages 2y5m and 1y4m.

    Good luck!
