Does anyone belong to one of these? We are starting one here and I wondered if anyone already does one and can tell me how they like it?
Here is a small example of some prices
    For example this month.

    40# of bananas was $12.
Ida Red apples were $.96 a lb.
10/4# bags of navel oranges for $19.00
12 bags of a variety of green salads for $15.50
    organic pineapples 20# $29.00
    25# green beans $24.75
    14 ct. of broccoli $15.50
After I have an account set you would go on line to see pricing.

    Thank and Be Blessed
    Lisa

I share a produce co-op membership. It's a set $25 ($12.50 each) twice a month. It varies what we get. We choose, but every one has to agree on items and then they are split evenly. We try to stick with "normal" stuff although we did get artichokes the last time around. Onions, apples, bananas, oranges, carrots, mushrooms, lettuce, and tomatoes are pretty much staples. I really have enjoyed it (and am grateful to my neighbor for introducing me to it). For me it's well worth the price.

I was JUST coming on here to ask this same question!! What are the odds? LOL! We are in Texas and are looking for a distributor to our area. So if ANYONE knows anything about this Please let us know. I want to feed my family healthy but it is SO expensive and I think a food co-op will allow us to do this without breaking the bank. So far we have 6 families who are wanting to do this with us. I'm sure there will be lots more once we get all the details down we'll spread the word. All the families that are interested now are homeschoolers. We ,JUST within the last week, decided to get a co-op going. But we are stuck on how to find the distributors and find them cheaply. So far the only one that we have found has a $1,000 order limit and you have to be connected to a business. Which we are. And we will be getting the produce and all other items for wholesale prices. We were told this was the best/cheapest one. We still haven't had a response as to them distributing their products here though.

I order with some friends in my town and one of us goes to a pick-up point about an hour away. very, very worth it- I save so much I can afford to buy only organic when I get things at the grocery store. It really helps me eat better and eat more local and seasonal foods. I love it!

I belong to a veggie coop and a raw milk coop here in San Antonio.

The veggie one is $21 every other week. The lady perfers to pick up herself with her kids her reason is because they know her at the terminals downtown already and know she will make sure she gets good stuff. We are all happy with the stuff she picks out.

Some groups take turn picking up. I am sure glad I dont have to do it.

She will pick out stuff that is in season the most. Stuff that a normal family will likely pick out grocery shopping.

They have an extra box so we can trade out stuff we dont like with stuff we do like. Anything left goes to the host family which is fine with me. We all leave a laundry basket to be put in our stuff. I usually come with an icechest and leave the basket there. I have to keep it cool in my car because i am in San Antonio most the day and its sitting in the car I dont want it to go bad.

Its been working out really well so far. I usually do my shopping after I see what I had gotten from the Veggie group. I also give some of my stuff to my dad now too to help him out. Its well worth it as long as you learn to use the stuff you get and not let it go to waste otherwise it can be wasteful. Luckily anything at our house that goes bad I can compost or give to my chickens ;p

Here is a website of a veggie group near us its not the one I use but it is similar and you can get some ideas from them...http://www.veggiepals.com
