My friend is pulling her dd out of school soon. We'd like to plan some really fun activities for the day. Any suggestions? Also we live in a small town so things like museums and the zoo are "out". Any fun ideas....?
Wellll, she'll want to de-school for awhile, so do FUN science projects, and jumpy, hoppy, or dice math games. You could read a story about Italy, or something that happened there, then have pizza for lunch. I dunno, those things just came to me, but they may not be what you are looking for...
I was thinking about maybe going to lunch. Watching a movie (but what movie?) and just having fun. No sit down school stuff.
I was thinking those things, because it would help get her excited about homeschooling! But your plans sound fun to me!
Its me I just thought of something.....if we watch a movie or even just play wii, we have a projector here so we could at least set it up on the wall...kids always seem to love that. I'm really at a loss for ideas, but I do want to "celebrate"....
Maybe you could have a pajama day? I'm thinking that you are meaning her DD and your kids? Can you make breakfast or lunch and eat it picnic-style on a blanket in the living room? Take pictures of the kids (like you do for first day of school for ps kids)- but have them be in jammies or just casual clothes. Make big blanket forts in the living room or dining room. Make a journal-type page and put in what the DD and the mom both would like to see from homeschooling (less stress, more family time, interesting projects, no running for the bus, etc). Get out the playdoh. Put bowls of assorted beans, legumes, macaroni, dried corn, split peas (in different colors), rice, etc out and let the kids make pictures. Or use feathers, glitter, sequins, whatever. Make a clay impression of the kids' hands and put the date. Make handpuppets and then let the kids put on a play for the moms. Use old socks, felt pieces or more elaborate designs. Put on music and play musical chairs. Or "Stop the Music!"- where you freeze when the music stops and move again when it starts. Play Simon Says, Follow the Leader, Red Light/Green Light. Decorate and bake some sugar cookies. Most of all, just enjoy the day and remind her that there will be others like it since you all homeschool! Hope that helps, MT3 P.S. We like to use the projectors for shadow puppets, art class, and sometimes math problems (like flashcards). You can also make silhouette pictures of the kids profiles- use black paper to trace the head, then place cutout on colored paper. Fun memories!
I would just play games, make some crafts, watch a movie with of course ~ popcorn, go to an indoor mall, etc. You didn't mention the age, but I am sure this could go for any age.
What about a picnic at a park? Play some and then back to the house for some sort of ymmy treat and a movie. Sounds like a fun day to me.
I think there are great ideas posted here... but honestly you all are making me so jealous... picnic in the park?! I have an inch of ice on the ground! I wanna come! I agree with the do extra fun things... start a scrapbook for school pictures. You could buy one and do the first page for her, leaving a spot for the first school picture.
I was thinking the same thing! Except, its just a teeny bit of snow and ice here and there and everything else is a mud pit lol So anything outside really is a no go... There are some great ideas here though And I just remembered something else. Friday night is the "AstroFriday" here. The college does a free astronomy show & stargaze. They seemed to really enjoy that last time.
I thought I should also mention that my dd is 9. But we will also have a 7yr old, 5 yr old, 3 yr old, 2 yr old and 2 11 month olds mixed in there
 Yes....defintely kids combined. I can't imagine having that many (those ages!) all to myself lol
Where I live we are having spring type weather. When I made the park suggestion I didn't bother to take geographical location into consideration. Silly me! Well you could do a fake picnic on the living room floor while watching a movie. My kids like to do that on rainy days.
