Good morning everyone!!! I was wondering if any of you had some easy recipes for children. We like to make cookies and such because it teaches Em's how to measure as well as kitchen safety at the same time. We have worn out our old recipes and I really don't feel like using them again this year. Any recipes will do. Thanks. Patty
to cause boring recipies to get exciting add new ingreedients! add fruit (dried) to chocolate chip cookies, or oatmeal, I generally add about a cup of oats when trying to make any cookie recipie better health wise too! I remove sugar for change of flavor and not sure how much but my friend uses fruit juices for sugar replacement. make cookies different and call them what your child wants to call them! Creation cookies?
did you see my post yesterday for "healthy snacks" they were pretty easy for kids. I'll come up with more today. They are under "other conversation"
Here's a drink in Faythe's Clubhouse magazine that just came yesterday. She's planning on making it, and possibly using it for her 4-H demonstration: Banana Split Smoothie 1 cup frozen nonfat milk 1 1/2 cup frozen banana slices 1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks 5 frozen strawberries 2 Tbs. sweetened cocoa powder Put ingredients in the blender and blend unti everything is well mixed. Another kid-friendly recipe (though no measuring!): Chicken Nugget Casserole Put a box of chicken nuggets in a casserole dish, cover with a jar of spaghetti sauce and Mozzerella cheese. Bake at 325° for about 30-45 minutes, until cheese is melted and it's bubbly.
Have you gone to the Dole 5 a day website www.dole5aday.com and signed up for their school stuff, they send cookbooks for each child (I always add a few to what we need because you can share with other homeschool families) and a magnetic chart to see how they get their 5 a day, a CD with songs and games and a skit to do.
okya, the down load and printable part is free the actual send it to me in the mail is 2.95 still a good price I think?
T'mom, you're in the wrong section! Go to the teacher section, and you can get it for free. And it specifically mentions HS'ers as qualified. I haven't done it yet, but I did see that. You can get one free one for each child in your "classroom".
I personally like using no-cook recipes. Things like fruit smoothies, fruit salad, yogurt parfait, etc.
thanks for explaining that Jackie. Sometimes when I write all I have to say on a thread I don't check back for a while. I like the dole program. Colgate also does a class program that is free, and I forgot what other ones, maybe we should start a new thread so that newbies could get in on the programs, and discounts like border's books, Jo-Ann Fabrics and so on.
plus it may not be too late to call the pizza hut 800# for the book it program--- even though they may have closed enrollment it never hurts to ask.
this spot has so much to it! Thank you so much! We can order a dvd story thing, cd? And worksheets, all kinds of cool things about five a day!
This is a great idea. I never would have thought of it. Emma is the Chicken Nugget Queen. I think we are going to make this the first day of school for lunch.
I forgot to mention that sometimes when you go to get something on one of theese sites, its easier if you have named your homeschool so that you have something to put in the "school name" field. We are Appletree Elementary. There is a whole thread going on what we've named our homeschools. It just makes it easier on the cookie cutter forms. And lets face it we are our Children's TEACHER!! Therefore we are intitled to discounts for teachers, some places like Borders book store you have to prove it, that means show your afidavid to homeschool or Our local homeschool group has "business" cards with our homeschool group's name and logo on it, simple black and white cards with our names (every one over age 5 gets one) I show that card as my proof.----just remember which purse you have them in when you go out
