Our local Montessori school recently sent out an email to local homeschoolers inviting them to join the school athletic teams.

Katie is interested in playing basketball, and I thought this might be a neat option.

Has anyone ever done athletics in cooperation with a local school?

We have never been given the chance, but if we could Crystal would play basketball for sure. She loves it. She played a the Rec. center for a few years but it too old now. They can't get enough people to sign up for 16 and older teams.

Not yet, I Want to so much though with ds and dd we watned to but so far could not find it.
I tried last year to get people into a "PE" class mode but no one wanted to.. I am not sure wha homeschoolers in this area do for that kind of thing other than extra curriculular sports, like one family coaches football so they are all involved in that

Not with a local school, but I'd willing to if it were the "right" school. I wouldn't allow my children to play with our local public schools, however, simply because my husband has taught there, and it is NOT the environment for my children.

Our state requires homeschoolers be allowed access to the public school sports teams. However, we are blessed to have not just one, but two different homeschool sports leagues in town.

If we didn't, I'd be all for letting them try out the co-op. I think you'll find the mindset of a Montessori school similar enough to most homeschooling philosophies to be a decent fit. If not, then you can always pull them next year. Guess what I'm saying is that it's worth a try.

We don't have anything like that here, but we can join the public schools extra curricular activities. We aren't sports people in our house, unless you count monster trucks and 4 wheelers, but if we were I think going with a group other than the public school for things would be the route we would choose.

That's what's great about our charter school. We have teams and this will be my oldest dd's first year on the teams. She's really excited to have the opportunity. My other dd will do what they call red shirting for the next two years and practice with the teams and go to games. Other than that, they race bmx bikes year round and we will be going to Reno for a race this weekend.
