I just wanted to say hi and catch up with everyone again. I havent been on here because I felt that God was telling me I needed to stay off the computer more and focus on other things. Over the past year I have been on line alot. Mostly due to DH's deployment. I just didnt want to miss him on line or miss an email since that was our only form of communication. Then he got home and I was so use to being on it all the time that I found myself somewhat addicted to it. It was time to turn it off. It has been over a month now and I am finally feeling like I can add it back into my life but trying to figure out what I should do to keep it from happening again. I know some only get on line when the kids are napping but that isnt an option for me.
What are some things you do to control the amount of time you spend on line?

I haven't been on as much lately either. Cutting back more is still a must but I am working up to it, slowly! ;)

As long as the computer is off, I am good. Once I turn it on, my eyes are glued to the screen. So not turning it on has helped me cut back a little. Again, I really need to cut back more.

My mom is coming for a month and this usually keeps me off for a while.

I have no suggestions. I've been on WAY too much today...this week...this month. I think I need to get rid of the laptop and go back to a straight desk top, so I at least have to walk my butt up the stairs to my room. <sigh>

You're supposed to balance your computer time? Oh No. !!!

    Good lesson for us all.

Can you set a schedule for yourself? maybe give yourself 5 or 10 minutes maybe 3 times a day?

I try to check 1ce after breakfast, 1ce after lunch and 1ce after dinner. And I've been known to hang out online after the kiddies go to bed, prepping for the next day, etc.

Now...there are days when I'm on ALL DAY. I have a problem.

I'm hoping to really conquer it over the summer.

Sigh. Now I feel convicted! LOL :D

    I got dial up.

No high speed with the new house. When the when the whole internet isn't instantly available it sort of curbs the enthusiam a bit.

I am a dial up girl too, dawn!

    I feel your sorrow!

But instead of allowing it to curb my computer appetite, I just sit on my butt that much longer and wait for the pages to come up.LOL

I agree with setting a schedule for yourself. It could be something like this:
Morning - 30 min, check & respond to email
Afternoon - 30 min, visit message boards, social networks, groups, etc. (any purely social activities)
Evening - 30 min, quick check of email, any other online activities you need to do
On days that you need to do online research for school, aim for an hour each time, so you have time for the research & your regular activities (that way you don't fall behind on email, message boards, etc, requiring more time later to get caught up again).
Set a timer when you get on the computer. Set it for 5 min less than the time you're allowing yourself. Then, when the timer goes off, you know that you have to start wrapping up what you are doing. Reset the timer for 5 min, so you don't get distracted & stay on longer. Use tha tlast 5 min to make sure you've finished any posts or emails you were writing, saved anything you needed to save, etc. Create an "unfiled" folder in your favorites. If the timer goes off (with your 5 min warning) right after you've discovered a new site, save it to the "unfiled" folder & look it over later.

I guess I'm not the only one who is addicted and has to be careful to not be on this thing all day. What I do is I set my kitchen stove timer to a certain amount each day (usually enough time to get me through 2 cups of coffee).
I have been known to go shut off my timer and come back to the computer especially when I'm in the middle of a good message board thread or a great article. I really have to kick this habit though. I find that some of my mornings fly by and nothing is being accomplished. I then scramble to get things finished in the afternoon.

    Welcome back Bunnytracks!

With our move, it's been a great time to introduce new rules for the kids. One of them is no games or tv until dark - and I've decided to enforce this rule on myself as well.

Just like the kids have exceptions, so do I:

*Kids get tv time until lunch (we school in the afternoon), but no games.
**Mom gets to check email when she gets up (just before lunch), and again after school.

*Kids get Wii Fit time several times weekly, interspersed within school time for PE purposes.
**Mom gets social site interaction several times weekly; sometimes it falls with the second email check and sometimes it comes later.

We all get a little leeway on a rainy day, but I do try to enforce being *outside* if possible, and *reading* if not. ;)

It's been working for us; we shall see if it holds (mostly on my part!!) now that internet is back on. LOL
