We just got done listening to an Adventures in Odyssey tape on the underground railroad. My daughter had a lot of good questions and wants to go see somewhere that was part of the underground railroad. We have the Freedom Center close enough that we could go, I'm just not sure if it is appropriate for young kid (4 and 6). Has anyone been who could share some firsthand experiences?

Don't know about the Freedom Center, but there's the Hanby House in Westerville, Ohio, that we've been to. It was a stop on the Underground Railroad. (BTW, we heard that Odyssey adventure!)

We've never been, but wish we could. We read The Drinking Gourd and talked about the underground railroad one day and that makes me want to see the Freedom Center even more.

Sloan- It sounds like a neat place- I just don't know if it is appropriate for younger kids!

Jackie- At the Hanby House, do you actually get to see the part of the house that was the Underground Railroad? I think that is what my daughter is most interested in!

I'm trying to remember...it was a long time ago. I THINK we did, but I'm thinking it was just a small hidey-hole, almost a small "secret room". Worthington and Westerville, on the north side of Columbus, were both stops on the Underground Railroad. There's an Africa Road, named because it's on the route the slaves used to escape to Canada.

Jackie- Any hiding hole (I would think) would be a small. I'll talk to hubby but I think we'll take the girls there on a Saturday afternoon! Thanks for the tip!
