PRINTERS: Laser verses Ink-Jet Help

Hey there..

I have a question, please...
I have always had my ink-jet printer. It is relatively old (5 years) and the ink is too expensive. $40 for one cartrige!

So, I need any advice you are willing to give...

Could anyone who has a laser printer tell me how it compares to an ink-jet? Can you tell me the difference in price by way of the unit itself, the ink and so on?

I have been everywhere looking for how the two types of printers compare and no one tells you this information, they just try to sell you a printer. UGH!

Pretty please with sugar and strawberries on top?

Thank you!

Well, I'm no expert, and someone else can probably give more information. I know that laser preinters are supposed to be better quality than ink-jet, but they are more pricey. I have never had anything but an ink-jet, so I do not know how much ink is for the laser. I feel your pain though.. my cartridges are $40, too. I have been using refills for the black ink, so that helps a lot. I tried refilling the color, but it did not work. It shows full, but does not print, so that was a waste of money. I told my hubby, we might as well just but one of those cheap printers when our ink runs out, because it's cheaper than refilling!

Pam you are so right it's almost cheaper to buy another printer then it is to get new ink. We have tryed refilling with no luck either. Our inks are about 40 dollars too.
So Jen yours is about the same. Ink of any kind is pricey.

Carl buys cartridges on line a whole lot cheaper than he can get them at Staples or anywhere else. He's out hunting, so I don't know where he gets them at. When he gets home, I'll ask him and post the site.

WEll, I am not worried about quality. I really only print out things for the kids to work on. Like worksheets. And when I do that, I do it in "Daft" mode, to save ink.

I soooo totaly get what you meant by getting a new one, because they are the same price as the ink. You are sooo right!

That is why I though, "Ok, I know laser printers are more expensive up front, but does that translate to savings, in the long run?

Meaning, if both side-by-side printing in draft mode, or some equivilant, would it be better to get the laser in the long run?

I cannot find a site that gives that kind of comparison.

I think I just need to go look at the cartridges and see which ones are cheaper, then buy the printer that goes with them, eh? hjahahaha!

Thanks yall...

Well, unless you get a WAY expensive color laser, then you could only print in black and white. We do quite a bit of color printing, so it has come out cheaper for us to use the ol' inkjets!

Yea,

I think I am just going to find out who has the cheapest, in general, ink carts and go from there...

Also, the Target store, here has a generic (Sorry do not know the name) carts that were twice the amount of ink and half the price! Problm is, they do not always have them in stock. Urgh!

Some Walgreens will refil your ink cartridge, I think they said it would be $15 for mine (I have an all in one cartridge and it doesn't last very long) I want to get a new printer that lasts longer.
