I am not sure if you all remember but I bought MUS alpha for my boy. I thought the hands on with the manipulatives would be good for him. Boy I was wrong. It was not what he wanted. We struggled to learn the facts, and he hated it so much he would cry when I got math out. So I looked around and bought CLE math 100 lightunits 101 and 102. I will be buying the rest of the set in about a month. WE LOVE IT!!!!
DS loves the short books, and little lessons. It is like his brain can stay focused because we change the subject so often. First we write a number a few times, then we practice memorizing a math fact, then we do a story problem. Then we do something with shapes and counting by 10 etc. He has done great learning the math facts too, because it shows they are in family's and for some reason that is something he needed to see.
One thing that he likes is that the lighunit will soon be over, like something he can check off as done.
I love that the teachers manual is layed out where you know exactly what to say, and when. They have a schedule for using flash cards, and everything else. It seems to flow pretty easy. It takes us less then 30 minutes finish it. We are speeding through most of the first lightunit because it is review for us.
I think the first light unit 101 is like pre k almost, or kindy level instead of 1st grade. When I order the rest of the set for my ds I am going to get another 101 for my 4 yo dd, I think she can and will enjoy doing it.
It is christian, and I don't think the christian part of it is pushy or stressed to make it fit. Like on the first page it talks about how God is a God of order, and math is Orderly because of that.
I also like that it is cheap, you can get the 10 light units for $33 and you can buy just one or two at a time to see if you like it. There are two teachers manuals that are 7 each
