Hi! Just a short intro. (I really feel silly writing intro posts, so please excuse this if it goes astray! LOL)

I'm homeschooling my two daughters aged 6 and 8. We've been homeschooling since the beginning, the girls have never gone to a traditional school. We consider ourselves eclectic homeschoolers. Although, this year we are doing three programs as a base for most of our families lessons. We are using Story of the World for history, Noeo Chemistry for science, Horizons for math. We're doing the science and history with two other groups of homeschoolers, and this is stressing my brain out. LOL, I'm so used to just going with our own flow and not worrying if we are on a schedule or not. The rest of the time is spent between park days, gymnastics, and reading, reading, reading! (Oh yes, and then there is our lapbooking group that meets monthly.)

So... thats us in a nutshell!

A LAPBOOKING GROUP!!! Oh, that is so cool!!! I just suggested lapbooking to someone on here just recently!!! I don't do much of it, but I did take Tammy Duby's workshop once and think it's really neat.

I'm Jackie. I've three kids: DD12, DD10, and DS (7 in two weeks!). Like you, I've been a homeschooler from the start. I also use Horizons, but only through grade 4, then I switch to Saxon for the middle grades. We're using discarded PS books for upper math (DD is in Algebra I this year). I use Mystery of History (oldest in a group that meets once a week, but we're using it as the core for all three). For science, my younger two are finishing up Considering God's Creation and then doing a Great Science Adventure, while my oldest just started in Apologia this year. So I'm pretty eclectic, too. Partly that's because I'm a former Special Ed teacher. There were never any appropriate materials for my class available, so I got use to putting my own units together with whatever I could get hold of. It worked well for me in the classroom, and it's working well for me at home, too!

Thanks everyone for the welcome. :D

Jackie-It took me five years to finally convince people lapbooking is fun. We've learned a ton of new things by being part of this lapbooking group. The actual "goal" of the group originator was to have a platform of sorts for the kids to be able to learn how to do presentations about.(I'm not the group originator, my "goal" was just to find other people who liked to lapbook! LOL) This has turned into such a fun experience for all of us!

Amy, lap booking is difficult to explain. Basically, it's a bunch of little books, glued into a file folder that has been opened up and re-folded, on a certain topic. It's much easier to see than explain. Here's the site I mentioned on the other thread:

    http://www.geocities.com/mamabrown_1122/lapbooks.htm

She's got several lap books here! My family did one on the rain forest, and another on butterflies.

yes, Amy that would be nice I would like to see how they are done. I think one time someone posted a web site but I couldn't get on it.
I don't know if I am crafty enough to one though?

    they sound neat.

Pepper, Welcome. I'm Vikki and live in CO with my dh of 14yrs and our 4 dc. We have hsed from the beginning and just love it. I really admire families that do things like lap books. It's so not my style. The kids would love it, but I don't have the patience for things like that.

I wish there was a lapbooking group around here! But, I digress........

WELCOME Pepper! I am homeschooling my three children: ds15, ds13 and dd9. We've been at it for over 9 years now, and we love it!

We are rather eclectic also. My oldest picked LifePacs to do this year for all his classes, except we do our own Bible. With my other two we are using Story of the World for History, and Saxon for math. dd is finishing up some A Beka science, then I want to get her the Apologia elementary Astronomy or one of those books. My oldest will be doing Apologia science as soon as the stuff gets here. ds13 does Vocab. from Classical Roots for "spelling" and dd does Rod & Staff Spelling. They both do their level of Rod & Staff English also. So, yeah, we're eclectic homeschoolers also! :D But it's all going very well, and the kids are enjoying their curriculums, so I'm happy about that!

I hope you stick around and spend time with us here. We're like a little family!
