Has anyone used "All about spelling"? Are the readers worth the $20 each? Or can we get away with our own reading list? Do they reference them often?

I'm going to a conference exhibit hall this week, and I'd like to have an idea going in of what I think I need.

    Thanks!

LOVE All About Spelling!! I used it with dd7 last year and didn't use the readers. The teachers manual never mentioned them either..

We use All About Spelling. We own one reader, it is cute, but it is not necessary. Their readers are not referenced, but they correlate exactly with what words are being learned... You should be all set with your own readers.

Another fan of AAS here! The readers are mentioned in the Level 1 guide as to when it would be appropriate to use them but that's it. We've never used them or felt the need, so can't really comment on the readers. Love the spelling program, though!

Thanks that's what I needed to know! I'll see if I can get some of the L2 ones used and cheap, but I think we have enough of the L1 stuff at home already.

I'm excited to go to our curriculum fair this week and pick up our new stuff! I feel like such a kid. :p

Wow, I just checked out AAS and was very impressed with their sample lesson. My son will be in 2nd grade next year. I'm wondering if I will need a separate phonics program with this?

Well, by looking at the sample lesson, I am thinking no but not 100% sure on this. Hopefully someone will have some insight.
