What are the good/bad things about learning language arts through literature? I would be needing the high school levels and would be using a seperate grammar book (because it seems like they don't cover those concepts in the high school books).
I have only used the 1st grade level. It was alright for awhile, but was like we were staring to read easy books then all of a sudden we were adding in quotation marks, harder words and sounds it just went way too fast and skipped too much for us. As Jackie stated hit and miss. It is also full of a lot of busy work, we learned some, but not enough to continue with the program.
I used the gold book for high school and we didn't like it. Either she wasn't interested in the reading or there was just too much prep to make it worthwhile. But we are workbook people and LLATL is more of a spine.
It was too hit or miss for us, too. I was really looking forward to it, but ended up not liking it at all.
This is our first year using it, and I like it quite a lot. The kids seem to like it too, which is what matters to me. My 2nd grader especially likes the cutting and pasting activities. We use a separate spelling program for each grade, but use LLATL for the rest of their language arts.
