I just bought a subscription to this online site. $54 http://www.clicknkids.com/ So far it seems decent. My son will be 5 on Dec. 26. He seems to be learning. He has only done about 4 or 5 lessons so far. It isn't terribly exciting, and we have to make sure he keeps at it. I like that the speaker is a real live person with excellent enunciation. It isn't a cartoon character talking. The fact that this is an online subscription means that he can do a lesson wherever there is an internet connection. Nothing to install or update. That is very handy. I will update this as we get farther into it.
Huh, I am surprised that it is not more exciting. It LOOKS exciting! How does it compare to Starfall? My son loved Starfall when he was little and it was free. I am very interested in your review because I have a link to Clicknkids on my site but I've never used it myself (my kids are too old).
So far, all the lessons are the same. The guy gives a sound and my boy picks the corresponding letter. Then it gives him some words and he has to click on the word that the narrator speaks. It isn't very gamey if that's what your looking for. Not yet anyway. I stress that we are only 7 or 8 lessons into it and it says there are 100 lessons.
sounds interesting and am curious to see how it works for you. I am a bit tempted to check out the free lessons but right now is the time for us.
My 2nd grader started using this last year, and likes it OK. It's good basic lessons in phonics. My son isn't thrilled about doing it, but he doesn't really complain, either. So I'm sure we'll end up finishing the program.
That sort of sums my son's approach as well. He does complain about the speed room and tries to skip it. Other than that, he does it without too much fuss.
I am feeling better and better about this program. I see real progress in my son. Again, it is not terribly exciting and he isn't all that thrilled when I tell him to do it. I do see some real progress. He is able now to find the beginning sound and end sound and to work back from that to knowing what letter each word starts and ends with. I do think, however, that your children will need to know the letters and sounds before they start this. My son learned it all from leapfrog (we didn't do a thing except put the tape in the VCR). Makes me feel guilty! ha! I also have to monitor my son since he quickly loses interest and starts messing around.
