I have found a curriculum that I would like to use for my children. The only thing is that my oldest is just about too old for it, IMO. If I started her on it after this year, there be one more year and then I would have to find something new again. I wish I found it sooner but oh well. My oldest will be going backto the org game plan of
    Apologia
    Story of the World
    First Language Lessons
    A Reason for Handwriting
    Journal
    Spelling (own thing)
    Horizon Math
Drawn Into the Heat of Reading

My younger two will be using Little Hands to Heaven (present) and Little Hearts For His Glory (Januaray 2009)

I figure since everyone will be around when I teach all this different stuff we will eventually get the hits and misses of the years. I am struggling with going against the norm of workbooks/different subjects throughout the year approach.

How many others use multi curriculums in their homes?

LOTS! I think many people on here use different things! YES, I had 3 children and used different things for many or most or all of the classes, depending on the year and what we were doing! I like it better that way though, and so did the kids!

3 dc here. History and science are the only ones combined; all the other subjects are different curriculum.
Math for example, I have one in Saxon, one in Teaching Textbooks and the youngest in Horizons.
    It totally can be done.

I agree it can be done. If it they are widely different you may have to do a bit of one on one with each. Otherwise if the theme is the same you can do an overview together and then be there if they need help on their lessons.

edited to add: Is it possible to modify the curr you really want to use to fit both? It sounds like you really want to use this one curr. and with modification you maybe able to do so.

Yep, we have 3 kiddos and the only thing they are doing together is Apologia Zoology 2.

I had hoped to use Sonlight Core 3 with all of them for history (modified for the youngers) but quickly found it was great for my oldest but not for the youngers (personality wise).

The only other common thing they use is Math ...all use Horizons at their grade level (K,2,4). The girls will both use R & S English next year but at their appropriate grade level (3,5).

With our age differences, personality and learning styles, we're just not a family that can learn everything together.....but the new science is going well....YIPPEE!!

I do! I started with everyone using Alpha Omega, but since last year we started varying that.
We did SOS and AOP then this year they both have completely different work, I decided I like this idea and though some classes will be AOP next year the variety is good!
Knowing that the older child has a different class helps me to remember that she is older!
I see it as a step up, like when kids go from grade school to Jr High, or Sr. They have different types of lessons, different styles etc. SO I wanted to mirror that in a way. I think it is good to keep them growing in styles so no one gets bored... that was our problem with the same style subject for everyone, competitiveness got to be really big for a while and then they all got bored with the same old thing.. though they each enjoy the idivualities this year.
    Hope I helped!

My kids both are starting to use different programs too. That's the great thing about homeschooling, you can use programs that work for your child. Not a one size fits all. It is more expensive but well worth it.
