 I am doing a major eye roll, if my eyes don't stop rolling into the back of my head it is going to be necessary to see an eye dr. My boys came home and told me that two people they work with made comments about homeschoolers. The nit wits wanted to know how they knew so many people for being hs'd and not allowed to go out and being locked in a closet for all these years. They even asked oldest son if his little brother had his own closet. Of course my kids know when people "act" like they are joking around they are trying to disguise what their true thoughts are. My oldest ds' comment to whether or not his little brother had his own closet was, "I don't know, it's too dark to tell". (Cheesy grin) Ridicoulous! My oldest said, "They contradicted themselves, if we weren't allowed to go outside, why are we allowed to work and have friends"?
I love his comment! I don't know how I'll react, I know it's coming and with just my neighbors comments irritates me.
ya, haha thats so funny how he reacted! HOme schoolers seem to be more apt to make friends easier in my area... maybe I am weird? lol
I got the comment.... "I would never homeschool, homeschooled kids are just weird. Dont you think so?" Umm.....ooookay. Her kids are best friends with my kids. If my kids are odd so are hers, they all act the same lol.
My ds was making fun of their idiotic comment and it put a stop to their garbage. I think they felt a bit stupid and just shut their gums. My kids are pretty quick on their feet and don't really care what others think. They are pretty comfortable with themselves and if someone thinks we are weird, then good Christian teenagers must not be the norm. The chief of police was just here talking business with dh (no he's not in trouble, work stuff) and he made it a point to compliment my kids.
How witty of him, I love that comeback. People just speak before they think and it makes them look totally foolish.
I had a good conversation yesterday! At baseball practice, one lady was very friendly and we were talking, we talked about ds10's trip he just got back from and she asked--"Is he homeschooled?" out of the blue! It totally suprised me, but when I said yes, she said "I thought he must be becuase I was thinking of all the school work he would miss other wise, and wondering how he could take time off from school like that, " turns out she teaches at a really good private school here. Anyway we have at least one nice person to chat with about similar stuff now at baseball! I am so excited! Someone who understands homeschool right off in our town is really hard to find! I found that I have to explain myself , they all think I am so brave, and so smart, and so strong LOL< They have no idea! HAHA!
I've got one for ya. A couple of weeks ago, I was at a wedding shower for a friend. I was sitting with a table that was pretty much all the bride's friends... I knew everyone there, some better than others. Well, this one friend of the bride -- who I've met a few times but don't know all that well -- goes "So, you really homeschool?" (My children WERE there, btw) I said "Yeah" She said "Really??" I said "Yeah" She said "Really, REALLY??" At which point, I figure 'yeah' wasn't going to cover it lol...so I said "Yes... really... we have books & everything"
Well duh you use books. LOL  Sounds to me like she was uncomfortable and unable to have an intelligent conversation.
Id have said, "nah I was just kidding we really just secretly go to FANCY SMANCY school and don't want people to think we are snobs or anything.... so we say we are homeschooling so they ask us silly questions again and again... Na I wouldnt have enough courage but sure would like to say that! HA!
