Between the Lions, I am sorry to say, is only on at 6:00 AM here! Just when EVERY kid is up watching TV, huh?
We have it on at a good time here, too, but they switch it out with another show. Jack LOVES SuperWhy and Reading Rainbow right now. He saw one of the bad guys on a commercial for Word Girl and it freaked him out so he refuses to watch that.
Eli LOVES word girl, Super Why (which just started coming on here about two weeks ago) and Word World. He was REALLY upset about them replacing Signing Time, though.
My dd LOVES SuperWhy, too! We also love Starfall! I don't know why they did away with Signing Time, because my dd learned so many signs from that. She knows a lot of sign already, but that made it fun for her. I haven't started my almost four year old on any reading material, so I don't know about that book, but has anyone heard of Love to Learn's "Happy Phonics"? Anyone used it? We plan to give this a try when the time is right! I've heard excellent things about it, so I thought I'd mention it, in case it would help someone. I didn't see it mentioned already, but if it has, forgive me. Here is a link for it: http://www.lovetolearn.net/catalog/category/detail/11/11
The FIRST day SuperWhy came out Jack was asking if we could check it out from the library. I think Signing Time is what alternates with Between the Lions here, but we don't really watch it. We like Starfall, too.
Oh, as soon as Elijah saw the previews for Super Why, we had to start a countdown. He kept asking "Is it September 3 yet?" (read "September 3", not "September 3rd"). lol You can often find the Signing Time videos at the library. I'm on the waiting list here for them, but it's a long list.
Signing Time has never been on TV here. We've always gotten it from the library. Word World replaced Berenstain Bears here. Evan wasn't happy at first that Berenstain Bears was gone, but then he watched Word World. He enjoys that, so now he's fine.
My girls are crazy about Word World too! Except they just call it "Chef Pig", haha! Oh, they like word Girl too, but it is a bit over their heads, they watch it intently though! Yes, great idea to move Between the Lions to 6am  I went looking for it today and see that WOSU did that. That is nuts!
We used the Ringbound Reading program...Read about it here: http://www.birdseedbooksforkids.com/reviews.html The best part of this program is the teacher's intruction booklet is just that, a booklet! All my children have learned to read using this program and ds, who is almost 4, will be next.
I used 100EZ for my son and my daughter, at the same time. My son was 5, and restless, but learned to read standing on his head and was on grade level when he had to go to public school (bcuz of my divorce) in 1st grade. My daughter was 3.5 to 4 yo, and would pick up the book and demand to be taught. She did not retain much, so we did it in fits and starts and she went to K5 and picked up reading instantly. I recommend it, especially for those kids who can't sit still, and for those parents needing to supplement their public school curriculum (I know this is a homeschol forum, but you can recommend it to your friends) when their child is behind in reading or just not "getting" it. I'll probably use it again when my 20 month old is ready to read. He likes to be read to now (the first of my kids who has been this way) so I can't wait to get started with him in the next few years. and, by the way, Hallelujah, we're back home again, and this is our second year. My new husband is a Godly man who is committed to homeschooling, and tho things are really tight financially, he knows this is for the best, for my first 3 kids, and for "our" baby. WooHoo!!
