View Full Version : Any advice? prayer?
So DH has Becker's Muscular Dystrophy, it's a muscle wasting disease, he's missing a certain protein, he can't build muscle. Anyways, his knee pops out, he explains it as the tendon is caught up on something so he can't get the knee back in place. I tell him to go to the doctor, but he can't because he went 10 years ago (I'm sure there's been some sort of medical breakthrough) and they couldn't do anything.
I am being such a baby too. I want it fixed, surgery, whatever it takes, but we have NO insurance, make too much for medicaid, etc. We also have a lot of orders to get out, before Christmas, he hasn't really taught me how to do it all because "I'll just screw it up." So I might be HS'ing, cleaning, cooking, and doing the business that I don't want to do until Christmas or whatever. Sorry, I am being a huge boob about this!!
Please say a prayer for him to go to the doctor, for me to be strong, and to somehow financially be able to deal with it all.
Thank you!

I know what you are going through we have no insurance either, I tryed the other day dh makes just alittle to much they take what you make gross which I think is unfair you don't bring that home. I said to the lady what am I suppose to do she said she didn't know but its a big problem in USA right now. I can't afford insurance on us I couldn't believe what they wanted just for me over 600 a month man what do they think I am made of GOLD or what. I really don't know what we are going to do. If I went to work for insurance the girls would have to go to ps and then if I worked part time they don't give insurance for part timers. what does one person do? Cry alot thats what I do and talk to GOD alot ...Poor man probably says give this lady a job with insurance so she will leave me alone.
haha, Kris, you're so funny!!
I agree, I hate all the insurance hoopla. We pay out of pocket and at the time of visit for the kids (eye and ped. docs) and I seriously think we get a little better treatment just because they know they got paid and they don't have to wait forever. They even give us up to a 50% discount.

Have you checked out the HSA (health savings account) they are way cheaper. Also ask for discounts for your husband if you are going to pay in cash. We get really good dentist rates because we pay in cash.
There is a doctor in our area who does not accept any type of insurance and she is alot cheaper then the other doctors.
I am sorry for both of ya'll and will keep your situation in my prayers. Right now we are lucky to have great insurance, but when we become self employed we will have to pay for it ourselves.
Hey Kris what about a the CHIPS program for your kids. You might not qualify for the free part but they do have lower cost ins. too.

Hey Codi, Have you checked out the Primary care network in Utah.
I was googling around trying to figure out what you could do...not knowing much about you or your family.

You can click on the department of health at the top and it will take you to their home page, and they have several different option for help with ins.
Thanks guys! I think it finally popped back in last night. Luckily I had convinced him to get a wheelchair earlier this year so that has definitely helped!! He is going to go to the doctor, which is a huge step, he HATES doctors, he thinks they do more harm than good.
aggie01-That link isn't coming up, but I will for sure look around and see what I can do. Also, I LOVE your Dave Ramsey quote!!
Here's a little update: (I hope I'm not jinxing myself :) )
Anyways, DH is VERY stubborn, that's GOOD though, supposedly he was going to be in a wheelchair at 16, he is now 35 (wow, JK) and has recently started using a wheelchair occasionally. So his knee finally got popped back into place, he thinks. It's still very sore, so he thinks it is because the tendon gets caught up on something in there and since it was stretched for almost 2 days it'll be sore, or he's damaged it more. 18 months ago his parents gave us a name of a doctor, he said he's going to call tomorrow!!! I'M SO EXCITED!!! I don't want to nag him, but definitely gently push him, kwim? He has said he'd call before and obviously hasn't.
I just hope they can get us in soon and something can be done. I don't know if I want things done now or after Christmas because he is a one man band with our business and orders are coming in left and right....definitely a good thing, but they all want it before Christmas, I dont blame them. So hopefully we can get through these next two weeks without any problems.
It's bad to say, but I'm glad he got scared/hurt enough to WANT to go in, kwim? He went to bed at 8, took tylenol, and used ice, all of those things are totally not like him, so I know it's bad. I'm so anxious to know what's next. :)

Oh Codi, some people need that extreme situation to put them over the edge and make them get help. I hope he follows through.
Any way to just go ahead and do the orders or make it clear that you're going to do them regardless of his wishes so he'd better show you how to do them right? I'm a schemer but he sounds like a guy who doesn't realize he needs help until he's either in desperate straits or gets forced into it.

Well, I really hope things work out. I do hope there is something that can be done for your dh. He sounds miserable! I am sure you are as well. It is alot to take on everything in the house. It makes it even harder if you think in the back of your mind that something can be done and he is not cooperating. So, I just hope something can be done. I am sure he would perfer to be a funcational active part of the family. I know you need him to be.
Please let us know how things are going and how the doctor's visit went!

You hit the nail on the head!! Like I said he is very stubborn, and mostly that's good, but other times, it takes a situation like this to change those darn stubborn people. Not that I'm stubborn in any way!! :D

Praying the doctor can help your husband today. Beth
DH has a meniscus tear so surgery is required, but it's an outpatient surgery. Which is excellent news on the recovery for DH and the pocket book.
Here's the best part though...the orthopedic doctor, won't do the operation because of DH having MD. The doctor operated on somebody that has another form of MD and he stopped breathing, so because of liability issues, the doctor doesn't want to do it. BUT, we did get a referral to the doctor we wanted to go to in the first place.

I'm still thinking of you and your hubby. I hope everything works out!!
Thanks guys!! Everything will definitely work out. It's funny, we're actually so much closer right now, I guess it's hard to get mad at each other when you are both learning A LOT!! This is all a huge blessing in disguise!
We should be calling for his medical records but we're so busy getting orders out. We have about 25 rings to make and ship by tonight, so we're just pushing as hard as we can. In just a bit we're going to go to Cabela's and buy one of those ATV ramps so we can get DH into our mini van, I've become totally buff (kidding) in the last week, but I can't lift him into the van. :)
