My kids like doing the 'classes' together and I think I might like some of the subjects that way also.
SO..... I am getting Apologia Science to look at.... and I wanted to know if anyone has done anything such as History with the 2 grades.
I want a program/plan because being new I don't want to do all the planning for these things. I don't mind some planning but want easy steps etc. Like with the science - it's pretty straight forward but I have a textbook that is the teacher manual/student manual and then notebooking pages are actually on the Apologia website.

Have you looked at Story of the World? They don't have planning, but the activity book is pretty straight forward. Lays out all the questions, extra litature ideas, ect. I think it could easily be used for 2 grades.

No I hadn't seen that one and it's perfect! My son has already done what AOP does for 5th grade (being in VA PS does all the Jamestown stuff in 4th grade)....
Thank you!!!!

Yes, when you have more than one, you almost HAVE to do some subjects together!
We do history, geography and Bible together. For awhile when they were younger, I did the boys English and Science together too.
SOTW and MOH are the history choices that I'd recommend also. They're great for the ages your children are!

Check out Mystery of History. People here recommended it to me and I love it. You can teach any grades together. There are age appropriate activities for all!

Yep. That. ;)
We do history, science, bible together, and geography as it relates to each of those subjects. Plus some family reading time. Mine are 8, then 3 and 4.

I ordered the Story of the World one - fingers crossed it will work well. I got the book and then the extra book off Amazon (gift card)....
Geography right now we are learning the states. Plain and simple..... my 5th grader didn't know maine was in the US....and for some reason I had a problem with that ;)
So now - it looks like we'll do History, Science, and Latin together (which was hilarious today since we learned the word 'toga' and selvete 'hello' so they walked around saying hello and yelling toga to every living thing for awhile)

My younger two (the oldest was too old and was doing other things) absolutely LOVED Story of the World! We did sooo much with it. Their Ancient History Notebook is bulging with all sorts of neat stuff, and there are many great memories!
Is "the extra book" the Activity book? That's a must have!!! It adds so much and truly makes history come alive!

Yes - it's the activity book. It's not 'due' in for a couple of weeks... late September even into early Oct. But I think that will be ok.
I'm just feeling like I'm going back and forth too much with the 2 kids that they aren't getting what they need from me as a teacher. And personally I want it to be a little more fun than study study study...

Well I found it on eBay cheaper (1/2 off) for a new set.... so we can get it sooner :)

We do history and science together, though last year, my oldest started doing advanced science on her own with Apologia. Like Deena, I'm VERY partial to MOH!!!
Did you want something with OK History? If so, ABEKA carries a "State Notebook". I think they have a packet for each individual state. We did it for Ohio. It's more than just history. Worked VERY well for us!

For the states, we got stuff off of homeschoolestore.com
What we are doing is they have to draw from our index cards with all the state names on them. Then I print out the notebooking pages for whichever state they are working on. I make my son do something fun such as his is California and he has to tell me some cool facts about football over there.... My daughter had Alaska and had to draw a picture of something she remembered from the cruise we took there (a whale tail).

Dana, Enchanted Learning has good pages on the states. They have a page on the state flag, and one with a map and questions.

Oriental Trading Company has a USA map, I think around 13 dollars. They are a good size cut out of each state that the kids can decorate. I am buying it and after each state is learned we are putting it on the wall. Also Enchanted Learning has stuff about each state. Edhelper.com has math problems to go with the states history. I don't remeber the story problems I pulled up the Indiana one (my home state) and thought it was neat. I am adding that to our geography since she can use the extra work in that department. Also you can lapbook the states. I have just looked over some lapbooking books from a friend and they had a state lapbooking project shown in there. I was going to notebook each state but I think we are going to do mini books and put it on a poster book (plus I am out of space on my wall)
Also MAINE sometimes feels like it isn't part of the state. When we lived in FL, there was never a weather report on Maine. Even in IN cause my dad did'nt believe me. They didn't show Maine's weather in IN either. You hear about everyother state but Maine. Plus there isn't much, they don't even have the thousands and thousand of billboards like GA and FL have. I thought New Brunswick was part of Maine, not Canada
Also we have SOTW. Everything but math/language will be done together. I want my preschoolers to be included as much as possible.
