This is a great recipe, I received this from a good friend of mine. She sold these at a bakery in our little Amish community.

4 sticks of oleo (don't use butter)
1 cup white sugar
2 cups brown sugar (packed)
4 eggs
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
6 cups of flour
2 small bags of chocolate chips

Mix in order except chips. Add them last. You can also add 1 cup nuts. Drop 1 teaspoon on cookie sheet.

Bake 350 degrees for exactly 10 minutes

Makes 8 dozen

This sounds fantastic! I usually use the recipe that comes on the back of the bag of chocolate chips.

Now may I ask a really stupid question????????

What is oleo?

No question is stupid, stick margarine. Do not use the whipped margarine in the tub.

Ohio Gma, I learned that the hard way! I tried making them with soft butter one time and they didn't come out right at all!

What happens if you don't use butter? Anything that's not real butter grosses me out...

Isn't oleo like Crisco Shortening Sticks? They come in a three pack plastic container, wrapped in foil, they are soft.

Some recipes that call for margarine sticks you can use Crisco instead.

Do you really use a t-spoon to drop dough by?? boy with a recipe that big I'd have to make them bigger or I'd be baking all day! It does sound good though.

Question answered, here is the response from TOH

It's margarine, as a matter fact, it's also called oleomargarine.

Samantha got into a can of shortening when she was about 14 mo. old............ everywhere! it was a hard clean up too.
