Is anyone else not allowed to do this where they live? We are not allowed laundry lines...but I was thinking of getting one of those small ones, I 'think' they stand and I could put in on my patio once in a while.

I would just like a laundry line!!!!

Most "modern" communities now don't allow it. They think it looks trashy or something  . And on the other hand, they tell us we need to conserve energy. Well, you can't have it both ways!!! I tried hanging the clothes out on a line, but the dog would pull them down!!!

Yeah, they probably do think it looks trashy. We also aren't allowed metal fences or swing sets. Oh well. I am still going to try to find something small to hang things on.

Get a couple of those cheap wooden racks for drying. I had one when I was single living in an apartment. I usually kept the stuff inside b/c I was bug paranoid! LOL :D

But if you have a porch you could sit them out - just be conciencious and make sure to take the clothes inside as soon as they are dry. AND fold the racks out of the way when not needed.

Does that help? I think Walmart carries them - they may not be wooden anymore (we're talking 18-20 years ago now!).

I have a wooden rack I got at WalMart. Some day I would love to have a clothesline. We are planning on living in the boonies, so there won't be anyone to complain!

I have too many allergies and clothes dried outside make me sneeze.

We are not allowed to have a clotheline outside. I was surprised! I agree with Jackie, ya can't have it both ways! Do you want us to conserve energy or not?! ;)

We live in the city and are allowed to hang them outside. I just don't have a big enough yard. We have a pool, swingset, and shed. That's all that fits. Would love to hang my clothes out.

I live where there is still small farms in the of town. So, to say we could not have a clothes line would be quiet stupid. I love my clothes line! Also living somewhere where is is soooo dry and winding it only takes 20 -30 or so minutes to dry your clothes so that is an a bonus!!!

I had a clothesline for awhile and when that got to stretched out we bought a metal one that I loved but one of our ice storms broke mine. I do have a wooden one that I use in the house for things that I don't want to put in the dryer.

We had one at our old trailer but the apt mgmt wont let us have one here, plus we dont really have a yard either. I hang stuff from the metal support beams in the basement LOL

Thank goodness I live where I do. No problem with clothelines...let alone abandoned cars that double as lawn ornaments. :) I have one of the 'umbrella' type clotheslines and I love it.

I would like a clothes line but we cannot have one. GRR I really would love to put my blankets and towels out on a line because they take so long, IMO, in the dryer.
I was having a GRR moment and told DH that I was going to tell GMH (Military housing) that it was against my beliefs (something like that) to use a dryer and I just had to have one. A year to go and we will own a bit of land with no community rules. :)

So for those of you who cannot have one, is it in your neighborhood rules? I have never gotten a copy of ours, so I have no clue, but I put my stuff out on the patio today on the drying rack and it dried WAY faster than in the dryer. I guess the low 90s didn't hurt...

My grandmother had a loooooong clothesline when I was growing up and we always played in the wet laundry (I'm sure she loved that!) and climbed on the poles. In fact, I broke my nose falling off one. When she passed away, one of her things that I chose to take was her bag full of clothespins.

yes, where we live they give us rules and cloths lines are out. WHY I don't understand. I have to agree with Jackie they can't have it both ways.

I guess if someone peered over my fence and was bothered by the clothes on the patio, I would first make them go make the guys down the street mow their lawn.

We can't hang our laundry out, either. It's in the civic association rules. I'm not sure the clothes would dry any faster outside in the Houston humidity, but I would sure like the cut in the electric bill!

Check the rules closely. My SIL lived in a subdivision that had a rule about clothes POLES and clotheslines. She ended up attaching one of those retractable lines to her house. She'd then unwind it and attach it to a fence post or something, hang her laundry, take it down, and retract the line. No one said anything about it.

It's in our Homeowners Association Rules somewhere. I don't know the exact wording, but I won't push it. I'm sure noone would mind if I hung out some towels over my deck railing or something, they just don't want a bunch of underwear hanging out everywhere is my guess! ;) Besides, it's not warm enough very many days a year here to hang clothes out on a line, anyway.

It's just my little problem that goes like this: I'm usually pretty laid back, but I guess I have my little stubborn streak in me. When someone tells me NO, you CAN'T do that! Well, then I WANT to do it, whatever it is, if for no other reason than because they said I couldn't! ;)

I just purchased the one on page 3 the Expandable Dryer with Mesh Rack. I planned on setting it in our enclosed patio or outdoor patio. Though it says indoor. Do you think the sun will ruin it? Though none of them say they are for outside. I am wonering if I should have went with the cheaper wooden one I saw at the store for $11. As this one was $24?

It's metal, so it should be fine outside. I think most people probably use it indoors, but who says we have to be like most people? :D It looks great!

I just started using my rack and it's working very nicely. I am glad I purchased this more sturdy one for sure. I like how it extepands out too!
