I got an email from Mom (who is the Missions Director at her home church) passed on to her by a family on Missions in Zambia. Becuase I can't figure out how to cut and paste the email here (if it's even an option), I'll re-write their message and you could read it - I don't want to leave out any details by paraphrasing it...

"Greetings in the name of Jesus! We trust that you are all well experiencing the good things of God.

The reason for this short note, is that we are asking you, our family, supporters and prayer warriors to stand with us at this time.It seems like we are under a spiritual attack - particularily on our health. Since arriving back in Africa the beginning of August, Jerry typhoid samonella, Jared (8yo ) e. coli, Jared and Joshua have had a parasites which we have treated, Joshua (5yo) has had malaria twice, Jerry and Jared have had malaria once each.

This is the particular request that we need a major covering for now.

Samuel (6yo) has been testing positive for malaria since October 5 and I (Brenda) have been testing positive since October 11. We have both taken 3 different treatments now to clear the parasites but they won't go away. We are not so sick that we are in bed but have body pain, extreme weariness and are both getting thin. This is the situation - if the parasites do not clear this time we will both have to go on quinine injections which are in themselves a very scary thing. The next thing will be a drug that has been regarded by the World Health Organization as extremely unsafe as it can cause cardiac arrest among other terrible side effects.

Our doctor tried to give this drug already to Samuel on Wednesday. Thankfully, I have an excellent book on malaria, medications and treatments and the warning bells went off immediately when she prescribed this for Samuel.

What we need right now is nothing short of a miracle. Would you pray for protection for our whole family and especially for Samuel and I as we finish another medication tongiht and will test again in the next two days. There seems to be a terrible strain of malaria going around our city that is not responding to treatment. Our 25 year old intern - Garret from Lethbridge has also tested positive for the last month as well as the Zambian dean of students (Pastor Stanford Phiri) for the Bible school.

Please alet your prayer chains. We are believing that God will bring us through and prove His amazing faithfullness yet again!

Thank you for your prayer and support. You are a vital part of the work of God in Zambia.
For the harvest,
Brenda for all of us."

This is scary business - i can't imagine being the mom of this family and having to deal with these things (while being sick myself). Thank you all for supporting their work with your prayer support.

Oh, my! This family is really going through a tough trial. I'll keep them in my prayers.
Malaria is awful, several missionary friends have had one strain or another. (Seems like anyone who lives in Africa for any time at all comes down with it....) But this strain sounds especially vicious. Praying for a miracle so this family can avoid those dangerous medications.
