This evening my sister called me up and asked if I would come over to her house because there were three large dogs that were trying to get the kittens under her house. Well, when I arrived, they killed one kitten. The dogs tore up the underside of her insulation. They even took down some of the skirting to get under the house.:x
So my sister stood on guard with her BB gun. I must say, I was impressed at her long distance shoots.;)
My sister is a pretty, petite little thing, who has long nails that she does not like to chip. I love her dearly but she is the type who does not like to get her hands dirty. We are total opposites.:D
Well, the dogs came back up to the yard and she let them have it. I heard a few yelps, signaling that they took a hit.:D
I teased her about telling her husband what a sharp shooter she is. He better watch it!
Any ways, they attacked the momma but she was still moving about and they scattered the others. We only found three kittens all together. The dead one and two living ones. It took some time but we managed to get the openings covered. It looks generic but it will hold until her husband gets home tomorrow. I crawled under the house and removed the dead kitty. Poor thing, his head was crushed and I could feel his bones broken inside. I was not pleased to say the least.
Well, that was my good deed for the day! Thanks to Animal Control not coming out, they are probably roaming into other peoples yards looking for something to attack. Hopefully they do not attack people.

Boy, I'd be on the phone to Animal Control, and raising a MAJOR FIT until they showed!!! I'd also threaten to shoot the dogs, etc!!! I'm a dog lover and don't care especially for cats, BUT I'd be right out there with your sister and the BB Gun!!!

Animal Control would not come out because it was after hours and it was not an emergency!
My sister called a couple of times but no luck. Sadly, this is what our Animal Control is notorious for.
I went over this morning and the momma looks tired but better.
My sister took me to breakfast at IHOP as a thank you! YUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tell Animal Control to come over and pick up their dead kitten.

Ya, I was thinking the same thing... and the owners need to be notified that thier pets have killed! How dangerous would it be for you to have a dog get out, run wiht a pack and take part in a kill, once they kill they can and probably will kill again I heard.
So important to let the owners know!

What kind of dogs. Were they scrawny/hungry looking or just "hunting".
Wild dog packs that simple hunt are a danger so small children also.
I would upgrade from bb's to a .22LR

Depending on where you live, you wouldn't be allowed to shoot the .22. Where I live, you can't even shoot the BB Gun at the dogs legally.

If the dogs were a personal threat, I don't think I'd care about legality, especially if it's dangerous to others as well.

Oh, I absolutely agree, but the law doesn't always operate with common sense!

We actually had a county sheriff tell us to shoot a dog with a BB gun because it was the weekend and animal control was closed. They told us to hit the dog in the rear and he would run off.
They did not have anyone to send out at the moment.
Really?! This is the best advice you've got? The dog wasn't even hurting anything, he just kept hanging around our carport and it was driving our dog bananas. She was barking and going scratching at the door.
Of course the kids wanted us to keep the dog. We ended up chasing it away.
They never even called back to see what had become of the dog. Our leash laws are a joke and unenforced and don't get me started on stray cats.
Sounds like your sister did the right thing. I feel bad for the poor kitty who died needlessly.

I am not sure what kind they were but they were large dogs. One was a bit on the plump side and the others were not scrawny in the least. I am assuming they belong to someone because they look like they eat on a regular basis.

Too bad you didn't know who the dogs belonged to...those people should have to take responsibility. We had a few rotts around here that when on a neighbors porch and didn't let the neighbors out of the their house. The dogs also went after the neighbor's cat but the cat went up a tree...thankfully. We knew where these dogs belonged and the people were only warned. Thank goodness they moved. I remember walking down the street with my kids. As we turned a corner the guy was outside watering his lawn and his Rott was in the front yard. Had I seent his BEFORE turning, I would not have turned (this was before the neighbor incident and before I knew where the dogs lived). Anyway...the dog was NOT on a leash or tied up. The man watched as his huge Rott came running toward me and my kids!!! The dog turned out to be friendly. But what if my kid freaked or something and caused the dog to attack? Maybe it doesn't happen that way. The man just stood there. I was so mad! He apologized. Then the dog saw another person walking a dog and ran after them! UGH. Some people shouldn't own dogs. My best friend's kid was mauled by a Rott while playing with her friend in the front yard. The Rott belonged to the girl she was playing with. I am a dog lover. I am not against people having Rotts. I think they are beautiful and intelligent animals. I just some dogs don't belong with some people.
