Could I use a plastic container to make it? I don't have a glass one. It's just so sunny outside today!

Oh I love sun tea. I haven't had it in soooooo long. I should make some. I almost don't remember how to.

I have only used glass containers...I don't know how it would turn out in a plastic one.

Lots of help, wasn't I???? LOL

I should just go buy a glass container. I don't want one with a pour spout at the though. Just a plain glass container. I wonder where to find one.

the last tea jar I had was plastic with the spout, I had to get rid of it because I didn't have a place to put it all the time................ not like Arizona doesn't get sun 300 days a year!

any of the big box stores have them now in their seasonal section. (K-mart, Target etc)...... I found some fruit shaped re usable ice cuebes at Target's $2.50 spot they come in a bucket.

Aball, Great then I shouldn't have any trouble finding them! Don't you just love the dollar section at Target;)

Yep, plastic is fine. I usually find the bottle with the spout in Wal-Mart. They usually have an aisle with seasonal stuff and this time of year they have plastic-ware and all kinds of picnic or outdoor stuff including tea containers.

I hope it comes out great. I love sun tea. Strong and sweet is the best.

We love sun tea around here!
Ems will usually make it acouple times a week.
I used a plastic container before, that was not meant to be in the sun. I used it anyways and it cracked from being in the sun, after a few uses. I find they do not get as hot as glass jars either.

The glass ones are super cheap this time of year at Walmart. That's where we had gotten ours quite a few years back.

Of course, we lived in AZ where it was sunny and warm all the time...we sold it before we left!

I use a Mr. Coffee Iced Tea Pot now. :D

Well, I actually went to Walmart and looked for an ice tea jar. They didn't have any glass ones! They had plastic ones with a spout and plastic ones without. They looked like glass until I picked it up. Bummer for me.

Oh, though I did buy a movie...which I come home to find out we already had.

Target had some sun tea containers a few weeks ago. Do you have a target near by?

SORRY that I misdirected you. i KNOW we got ours at Walmart - but it was years ago! Hope Target has what you're looking for.

This may sound silly, but do you have 2nd hand or consigment stores near you? or Good will stores? I find that kind of stuff all the time at our Good Will and our 2nd Avenue store nearby. GREAT stuff. CHEAP.

kbabe1968, That's actually a good idea, yes we have thrift stores around here. I will check them. That's ok about the Walmart trip, I picked up some things I didn't need:)

Nothing! Everyone has plastic containers; Walmart, Meijer, Target, LinensnThings. No tea jars and no recipe cards. Geeze. Maybe I will try the Goodwill for a tea jar?

I went up to our Walmart this weekend...they have them! But they have the pour spout.

If you don't want the spout - go to Michaels or AC Moore or a crafty type store and buy a 1 Gallon glass Mason Jug (that's the only place I've found the gallon sized ones).

I second Krista, with the addition that if you want to make a small batch, the quart mason jars work also. Only my dh drinks tea here, so I make it fresh daily in smaller amounts.

I prefer glass, mainly because plastic gives things a funny taste especially when sitting in heat- to me anyways. It's also not healthy. They say not to cook or freeze things in plastic.

I make Decaf here and mix in green tea. I have one of those Mr. Coffee Iced Tea pots so it's made in minutes! LOL :D I use 8 Decaf Tea bags and 2 Decaf Green tea bags. I'm slowly working to half green/half decaf for him since Green Tea is such a great antioxidant...:D Sneaking in the good stuff! LOL :D

My husband EASILY goes thru the 3 qt pitcher each day....so I don't have time for SunTea! LOL :D

I make it fresh almost every morning.

I found an ice tea jar...well one I can use for ice tea. All stores I checked only had plastic. I would put up a photo of it but I don't know how.

TeacherMom

OKay, yes you can use plastic, it just takes longer. I read some of the thread but nto all because I wanted you to know thatl. I have done it because we had one fall and shatter when I had smaller kids. So fi you have younger children go ahead and get a clear plastic one, the sun can shine hot in there just like any other.
fact is most teas will seep and brew as it were with nothing today y ou can also add ice to it and water and make it that way!

TeacherMom

why add the decaf? the cafine in green tea is more than coffee... doesnt it defeat the purpose? Or is it really good tasting that way? Just cuious not trying to sound mean

Earthy

kbabe1968- I always mix my decaf reg tea and decaf green tea too. I don't know why, I just do.
