Well, Halloween is coming up fast. In September our 3 year old daughter Katerina was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. So far, I think the shock, the adjustments, and the learning everything is going smoothly, we are over the OMG  hump and going on with life. BUT.... halloween is coming up :? And then after that, Valentines and Easter. I have this wonderful carb book to follow, gives the carbs that are in everything you can think of including every menu of about 200 restaurants. To keep her blood sugar between 70-140 (which is what her pediatric endocrynologist wants hers to be since she is so young), we use the formula
"bloodsugar" -100 + carb units = insulin given (thats the short acting, Novolog)
. . . . . . . .100
Ok, a carb unit for the record = 15 grams of carbs.
My question is this, do you know of any low carb swet treats, candy especially, things that can be put into a childs bag, that tastes like its supposed to. I have tried low card Peanut Butter cups (reese's has these and PWTHAAA :!: they taste like chalk). I will take recipes, weblinks to buy premade things, whatever you've got. Regular candy is listed in the carb book our dr gave us, but geeze....for example one small bag of M&M's, my daughter would have to be given a shot of 7 units of the short acting insulin. Is there any other moms of diabetics here?
Ignore the . . . . above, it was the only way I could get the formula to look right in this posting, hehe. Love and thanks for your help, Carolyn
